Mental and emotional cruelty can be just as bad as physical cruelty, and even worse in some cases, but I think anything can be grounds for divorce pretty much anywhere in this country.

According to this website http://www.divorcenet.com/states/south_carolina/south_carolina_grounds_for_divorce the only grounds for divorce are 1)Adultry 2)Desertation for a period of one year (he would have to have left you and lived away from you 3)Excesive drunkeness 4)You been separtated for a year (this is no fault divorce) You can divorce your husband but just remember that there are lots of loop holes out there and if he's a jerk he'll find them. You'll need a lawyer and there are places out there that offer free legal services for things like this. You just have to search it.
