This subject has been one of my life's scholarly studies. I've been to places where marijuana farming is a way of life. I've been told by those who were there, that, before WWI, everybody smoked or chewed pot. One friend told me that you could go ashore in Panama and fill up your pillow case for 50 cents.
There are towns around the world famous for the quality of their products. They used to put little foil seals on the bundles.
Look up the Harrison Act. Read about the motivations behind it.
Then, think about all of the things that cocaine and morphine changed...and why is marijuana and not alcohol included in the group?
You will find racism at the core. Oppression of the inner city blacks...as usual.

Marijuana should be illegal because people who smoke it lack motivation and populate the "hand out" line. Like alcohol, it kills the brain resulting in zombies. Long term users of cannabis and alcohol have a memory slightly quicker than a mushroom. The stuff is just not good for you. Besides, most people don't know what moderation is.

The support of the persecution of a singular plant species is absurd in itself...it reflects ignorance of the root issue, which is governmental control.
However, as ignorance is replaced by intelligence, and more people re-delve into the limitless options in nature's entertainment pantry, you will witness our governing force of sheer stupidity with high beams on...they will find some way to ban the use & personal growth of herbs & plants altogether...they are already attempting this for the profitability of our medical idiocies, even though natural healing is made available to every species on this planet before they are even conceived, and Western medical theorists are only a few hundred years old...go figure!!! Again, the toddler bully reigns!
Alcohol was raised from the depths of prohibition when the governing wonders found a way to control it's monetary prosperity to it's own favor, and until such is capable with cannibis sativa (& in some states, it's genetic affiliate, indica), it will remain in the category "make the money by making it illegal". You have noticed that alcohol ads are back on t.v. after that ban in the late 60's (their original attempt at the "out of sight, out of mind" safety for kids...I guess they don't care about the alcohol problem now--smoking cigarettes is the new target).
Human psychology proves that if you take something away, people want it more...quite an effective marketing ploy...you don't honestly think they want people to quit buying tobacco/alcohol products, or marijuana, do you? Right now, they are using this focus to make the bucks on prescriptions & medical programs, as well as to separate people from each other (part of human mgmt.)...in about 20 years, cigarettes will be right back up there with alcohol, back on the billboards, t.v. etc., & fingernail biting will be the next big No-No. LOL
Unfortunately for them, at the moment, they have little control of the Great Mom, Nature...she encourages free-will choice of anything & everything created of her & vastly supplies for all options; however, They do have control over us & our entertainment choices by the legal/illegal methodology.
Things to keep in mind come election time!!! God Bless Amsterdam, NORML, & moonshiners--they uphold the People's freedoms & personal prosperities!!!

I am fairly new here at YA. One of the things I've found surprising is the relentless stream of "why not legalize marijuana" questions. There are at least 3 or 4 every day, in one form or another.
I am older now and don't get high anymore, but as I look back I realize that it's because for a certain number of people who smoke dope, it becomes their entire frame of reference for life. Almost like a religion. I remember guys like this. You could go to the museum, for example, and they would inevitably remark, "wow, wouldn't it be cool to make a bong out of a dinosaur bone?" Heard a good song? They'd say, "I bet that sounds awsome when you're high." Anything, and everything is viewed through the prism of being stoned.
So, I guess it's not surprising that in this era when there are any number of interesting and challenging political and legal issues facing the world, that a certain number of people are going to use this forum to chant "let's legalize dope" constantly.
Personally, yes, I think it should be legalized, but it's not that big of an issue, frankly. Seriously, there is life beyond the bong.

If alcohol were invented today it would be a schedule II controlled substance just like cocaine and meth. Schedule II controlled substances are things that are highly addicting but have medical value. You wouldn't be able to buy it in an ABC store, you'd have to have a prescription to legally possess it.

Adolescents who use mj weekly are six times times more likely to run away from home, five times more likely to steal, and six times more likely to skip class....
Short term effects of mj: Anxiety, panic attacks, depression/suicidal thoughts, school performance and grades often drop due to the effects of mj on memory, consentration and the ability to solve problems(affects things in daily life) When THC binds with receptors in the hippocampus(short term memory) it interferes with memory for recent events. When THC latches to receptors in the cerebellum and the basal ganglia motor cordination is affected(causing slower reaction times)
Long term effects of mj:
BRAIN: Long term changes occur in the brain. SPECT scans show numerous holes indicating multiple areas of decreased metabolic activity and blood flow. SPECT scans also show cronic mj use leads to decreased activity in the temporal lobes which are involved in memory, understanding language, facial recognition, and temper control.
CANCER: Mj smoke contains many of the same cancer-causing agents(carcinogens) as in tobacco. A joint contains 3 times the tar found in a cigarette. 5 joints a week are equal to a pack of cigs everyday! There are57% more carcinogens in mj than tobacco product(leading to a greater risk of cancer)
LUNGS: I think thats obvious I'm going to skip it....
Medical: Scientists have been disappointed and havent been able to prove that mj is theraputic at all.... The carcinogens and health effects don't balance the good.... Glaucoma pateints have been prescribed mj to reduce eye pressure- but studies show that long term use increases eye pressure and decreases vision.
There is so much more!!! But I have to go to class..... I hope this helps!!! I can finish answering after my classes..... but whatever

i dont think it should be legalized, mainly because i know it never will. if people focused more on decriminalizing it in the home we might actually see some results. if it is legalized, its just another thing for the government to tax and regulate.
