He should see a pediatrician within the first week of life, and again at 2 months old... there might be an appointment in between, but I don't think there is.

Newborns will been seen by the pediatrician in the hospital before discharge so it's important that you have one already picked out and make sure they are accepting new patients.
Usually they go back sometime that first week after they are born depending on any health issues or non-issues. From there on they go on a regular basis (every 3 months or so) for shots and well visits. Your pediatrician will tell you specifically how often they want you to bring your baby for a visit.
And newborns usually travel with mom to the Ob/Gyn because mom wants them too. Either from lack of a sitter, to nursing or other feeding issues..it's easier to bring baby to the appt with you then to find a sitter for a tiny baby. Besides....who wants to leave their kid at home when they are still so cute? LOL BUT it's never because the Dr is examing the baby.....

A pediatrician right away. Most hospitals will not allow you discharge until you have an immediate follow up appointment with your pediatrician, normally three days after you're released from the hospital. Your obstetrician may perform a minor evaluation in the hospital, but in no way is a substitute for a pediatrician who is specifically trained to meet the medical needs of your newborn.

You should have a pediatrician in mind before you even go in to give birth. You give the name of the pediatrician to the hospital, and they will contact the pediatrician when you give birth. The pediatrician will then come in to do an examination on the baby before you leave the hospital. Then you'll see the pediatrician every couple of weeks at first. The pediatrician will have a schedule to give you telling you when you should bring the baby in for a visit.

The pediatrician you pick for your baby should see him before he leaves the hospital after he is born. The doctor will, most likely, tell you then when he wants to see him next. Then after the first visit, he'll have a 3 month, 6 month, 9 month, 1 year, 18 month, 2 year and then a annual appointment from that point.
I brought the baby with me to my post delivery check-up because *my* ob/gyn likes to see the babies she delivered. Every doctor is different, check with yours when you make your six-week check.
Try to find a pediatrician before you have the baby. Ask friends, your ob/gyn or your regular doctor if they recommend anyone. Call them up and ask them anything you want. They are definitely used to it (shows you are a very concerned mom). One very important thing is to ask them if they take middle of the night calls. Some doctors have an on-call doctor to contact "after hours" (NO SUCH THING WITH A BABY!!). Also, see if they have a nurse that can help with questions. And see, if you have this worry, if you can bring your baby in, without an appt., to have him weighed.

No you do not take a baby to the OBGYN...when you are in the hospital if you do not have a pediatrician already the hospital will assign you one. They will come to the hospital and check out the baby before the baby is release from the hospital. It is then up to you to take your baby into your own pediatrician about two weeks after. They will then set you up on a schedule to see the doctor for the first year

When my sons were born, we had to have a pediatrician check them before they were released from the hospital. So we had already picked a pediatrician before they were born. They both went in for a check up by the time they were 1 week old, then continued with their well-baby checks at 1 mo, 2 mo, 4 mo, 6 mo, 1 yr, 18 mo and 2 yr.

Your obgyn should've informed you about taking your baby to the pediatrician after six weeks. There's no need to take baby to an obgyn. Pediatricians see babies. And be sure to get parting instructions from the pediatrician about when the next baby appointment will be. Good luck with your baby, and remember, there's no such thing as a stupid question.

Your baby will see a pediatrician in the hospital. If you dont pick one before it is born, the one rounding in the hospital that day will see the baby. The pediatrician will talk to you about the baby and will let you know when they need to see the baby next.

You need to take your baby to the pediatrician after about 1 week of being home from the hospital. The pediatrician needs to see if the baby is gaining weight and how the belly button is healing.
