“Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton, vowing to ‘stop the revolving door from the streets to prison,’ pledged to invest $300 million as president into public-private programs for ‘second chance education’ and reintegrating ex-offenders into communities.”

Don't we already offer free education in prisons? I am just very leery of any politician who wants MORE of my money.....they cant even spend what they get effectively as it is, work on that and I might work on giving you more.

Rango, agreed. But education is already provided for free while growing up too.

There are no programs available that forces parents to be responsible.

Crabby, this bill is proposed for felons, so the other programs dont apply, especially when felons are not allowed to be apart of many programs because of their felony.

My mystery,
You dont know me, so dont pretend to write me off as a partisan. Besides, all you did was criticize (typical political move) and never enlightened us as to what the facts were....since I am the one spinning....is it easier to label than it is to think?

Noils, I was. And I voted against Bush when he ran for Governor of Texas, so dont use the EXCUSE of "but why not when they did it?"

Thats what kids use when arguing and it doesn't work. So why do we let our "LEADERS" do it?

between Palin and McCain, they're going to pull in a minimum of 10% of Hillary supporters, likely more desirable. The Lefty's low foreheadattacks of a reliable female and a pregnant 17 365 days old female have little doubt appalled more desirable than some Democrat female electorate. Palin isn't radical, purely Conservative, and by no skill even confusing top Wing at that. 10% of Hillary electorate characterize apx 5% of Democrat electorate. Take 5% from Obama and provides you it to McCain. common mathematics tells me it quite is a 10 factor chop up between McCain and Obama. Polls in some states educate as many as 20-25% of Hillary electorate going to McCain. tell me Obama is prepared and could have sufficient money to offer up ANY Hillary electorate.

I am completely for prison reform. Start with the court system, rogue police and some other areas. Education yes, well spent money always. Educate the family involved in the circle that ultimately returns people to jail cells.

Can this lady add? Has she ever taken a math course because all we hear is glorious plans and costs? From where? Taxes.
Cigarettes, to condoms, where will it end. But sure sounds good. Vote for me, live free!

Actually, we don't offer free education at all levels in all states.
It may not cost you more money, it might just be redirected funds, other less effective programs might be ended to initiate this one. It costs so much to keep people in prison that a measly $300 million would be worth it just to try it out.
I know shes got a lot of proposals out there, no one, including her thinks that they will all pass even if shes elected, but she does offer some intriguing fresh ideas, instead of jumping down her throat, maybe a clean discussion and evaluation would be useful.

We could use it.

Guess what? Programs for education and other rehabilitation have been gutted by the neocons over the last 12 years. Now all the criminals they got put in jail with their "tough sentancing" are starting to get out--without being resocialized. And the crime rate is soaring.

Which is going to cost YOU--the taxpayer--a lot more money in the long run. Or, as they say, you reap what you sow.

well
I am not a Hillary supporter and have not seen the statement
but our recidivism rate is horrible
I do not know the answers but somehwere we have to do a better job of giving criminals a better way of staying out of jail
Harsher times inside?
A better start outside with better job skills?
I have no idea but it is definitly a problem that needs addressed.

Why, why, why...?

Weren't you concerned about out of control spending by Bush and the Republican Congress until the Democrats took over and closed the checkbook?

I think you missed the point. Typical republican with no comprehension skills spinning the facts into a misrepresentation of the statement.
