I am planning on transferring to Florida State University in Fall 2008 from a community college in NY. I will have earned an associates in business with a 3.6 or 3.7 gpa out of 4.0. I am very worried though because last year I left my community college for a private university in NY but i ended up dropping out. so i had no grades for any classes the whole year i was there. i dont even want to put this other school on my application to FSU, but the application says, "List every post-secondary institution you have attended or will attend prior to entering FSU, including dual enrollment. You must include schools even if you did not complete a term. Include FSU if you attended previously. Failure to list all institutions could result in your application being denied or your admission being rescinded." What should I do here? I really need to get accepted. Any advice will be appreciated.

Tell the truth.

In the old days (and not too long ago) schools couldn't tell if you'd been somewhere else unless you told them. These days there is a clearinghouse of information and the fact that you attended a certain college is a public record. Very many schools participate in the clearinghouse.

FSU can tell where you've gone - they just can't tell what you did while you were there unless you tell them. If you don't tell them anything, they'll just assume you got kicked out or that you owe that other school some money.

They have been very specific, so there is no question here. You need to include that other school. The good thing is that since you didn't finish even one term, there should not be any questionable grades on your transcript. Ethics aside, you really don't want to get to the end of your senior year and get expelled for lying on your application!

Definitely include it in the application form. You have to. You can explain to them that you were a student there, but due to circumstances etc. They can tell you're a good student from your community college GPA, so just explain to them that you had to withdraw from school that semester. Don't worry too much about it. Good luck.

Honesty is the best policy - list it - and give details / explanations when asked, rule of thumb here is if you lie about a little thing you have lost their trust and they can never know if you are being truthful.
