I am having trouble solving these 2 problems - I get the first part of the answer right, but am stumped on how to get the rest of it. Please help!

1. 7-5r^2+r^4 / r^2-4


2. (2a^2-42a+54) / (3a+9)

ironduke, I came up with the same solutions as you, but I keep getting told it's wrong...there's some type of fraction to follow and that's the part i'm having trouble with...

1. 7-5r^2+r^4 / r^2-4
= r^2-1 +3/(r^2-4)

2. (2a^2-42a+54) / (3a+9)
= 2/3a -16 +198/(3a+9)
=2/3a -16 +66/(a+9)
