You are correct about the US dollar falling, but I don't think Russia alone has the power to bankrupt the US.

In fact, China has more power to bankrupt the US than Russia does (since China has more US dollar reserves and it also buys bonds from the US, i.e., lend money to the US). And both countries are not too friendly to the US, so they can gang up on the US in terms of finances.

All they have to do is start selling the US dollar reserves or stop buying US bonds, and start buying more gold and Euros.

But, 'beauty&brains' is right - US is doing it to itself by huge deficits in both trade and budget, and irresponsible spending. Plus, the Fed lowering the rates doesn't help the dollar, and inflating the money supply by pumping dollars (created out of thin air) will destroy the dollar. Both the US government and the consumers are deficit spending, so we are definitely doing it to ourselves.

Do you think constantly slashing interest rates is good for this country?
Well it can be sometimes. But the value of the dollar slides because of it. And inflation creeps in. Its a tightrope but Russia is clearly not responsible.
