all codes showed as normal. Had a complete diag. that even showed that the bonneville had a buick engine.
Still ..after fuel pump was changed 2 times in 10 days I have the same problem. Car was towed just day before yesterday. Also what happens to all the gas they take out of the gas tank everytime they change the fuel pump. I was told that it was contaminated and could not be put back in . I've left the mechanic 3 times with min. gas in the tank...what's up with that?

You checked for codes, but you didn't say if the data that the PCM has looks normal. Check through that as a sensor might not set a code, but they do deteriorate. Are you saying the fuel pressure is good? I would still check it as it has to be around 40 psi and steady to start. Then check for strong and consistent spark output with a large gap to ground. These coils were known for becoming internally shorted which means they produce less than full output which greatly affects start up. I would look at all the plug wires and especially the connectors for corrosion and replace if nec. The other thing that caused intermittents was the crank sensor. I used to tap lightly on the sensor as the motor was running to see if I could get the motor to stall. If it stalled, repalce it.

MOST LIKELY CAUSE IS THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR THIS CAN BE DONE FOR A COUPLE HUNDRED BUCKS
these sensors overheat and stop sending signals, it could also be the pcm although highly unlikely, b/c the module is located inside the cabin in these vehicles, the obd1 computer doesnt set dtcs like obd2s which are more sensitive i say go for the crank shaft sensor and avoid hours of diagnostic work, belive me i have seen it before, good luck

Most likely you have a vacuum leak or bad fuel injectors. Check all hoses under the hood and try to clean injectors with lucas injector cleaner or sea foam.
