I'll join you in punching the throat of any $hithead who mentions FOB. Anyway, my pick is Creedence Clearwater Revival. Allman Bros. and Grand Funk Railroad are contenders as well, but I give CCR a slight edge.

America is too big with too many subcultures to really pull this off. If I were to venture a guess, I would say Buddy Holly and the Crickets. But, not many people will agree with that. I think they were some kids messing around with a new sound, stuck it out when everyone told them not to, and helped kick-start modern Rock. They found a niche, and made things happen for themselves. It's what America is all about.

Haha, I would have to pick an artist like Bob Seger or John Mellencamp. Especially John Mellencamp, his music just screams Middle-America to me.
