Significantly improved? MOST DEFENANTLY. Stanley cup? Not this year. I am a tried and true Caps fan,but like was said earlier Olie the Goalie is great, one of the best, but he is old now. I do not like Johnson either. If and that is a huge IF they can trade for a decent goalie I see maybe the second round of the playoffs THIS year. Now if they keep this good game playing up they are doing now, please, they will be unstoppable. Cup is a REALLY REAL possibility next season if they keep everything intact. It was a long rebuilding period but now Hanlin and crew have one decent team that will be a force to be reckoned with this season.

They will not win be the best in the regular season. I would love to see them make the playoffs and I'm sure they will. They could possibly win the Southeast division if Kolzig has a solid season. I think Washington would use a little more at defense but once a team makes the playoffs you never know how far they can go.

Definitely a possibility after the moves they made this past offseason. Also that division has a different surprise team every year and this year if the pattern continues its Washington or Florida's turn. Both teams made good moves to improve in the offseason but I think Washington has been in the dumps too long and there's now too much talent on that team to be that bad again.

No.
They have a weakness in goal which George McPhee is desperately trying to fill because as good as Kolzig is, he can't play 70 games a season anymore and Johnson isn't happy.
Also, they have a lack of depth on the blue line. Once January rolls around, they will be hoping to make the playoffs. It will be 2001-02 all over again (they won 6 of their first 8 games, failed to make the playoffs).
They are a team on the rise, but I think they need to do more to get to the playoff table.
The 40 experts in the hockey news combined picked them out of the playoffs, I think that is where they'll be.

I doubt they will win it all, but it would not surprise me to see them make a playoff appearance as a 7/8 seed team. It'll really depend on how the Southeast looks this year. So far from what I've seen the Caps biggest concern is going to be Tampa Bay. Lecavlaier and St. Louis make it it difficult to take the division seed away from them.

Just because they started well, doesn't mean they are going to be #1. They are definetly playoff worthy with the addition of Kozlov, Nylander and Backstrom this season. But definetly not far in the playoffs. GO HANLON!

Move them to the Northeast division and sure. But the Atlantic and SE are way to competitive for them to make it this year, but look for a low seed this year at best and possibly a division lead year after. They need a younger starter though, that's their weakness.

I don't know about first, but they're definitely clicking this year and can go far. They were certainly a sleeper during the off-season and came out of the gates on fire.

theyll improve, they probably had the NHL's best offseason.
i doubt theyll make the playoffs though: the Atlantic and South-East divisons are too competitive for them to squeak in.

NO. And using all Caps isn't polite you know.
They are much improved I grant you that but I still don't think they're deep enough in all phases of the game.
