Yet conservatives constantly say they are for small, limited government? Abortion? Homosexual rights and equality? Suddenly a more intrusive and powerful government is fine. How can they be taken seriously?

Ahhh, you all make such wild assumptions about me due to my different views. I must be in college, how else could i be so naive as to not see the world as you do right? I must agree with social welfare programs and big government spending right? More taxes, more intrusive government! Wrong. I'm a libertarian. I believe in true limited government, unlike many of you that pick and choose when you apply it. Marriage is not a religious institution in this country, otherwise athiests could never marry. Yet they do every day. What business is it of any of you if two adult men or two adult women choose to marry and recieve the same rights as any you? Does it honestly hurt you? No, it just offends you. It shouldn't be the job of the U.S. government to protect you from offense.

Barney,

Do you honestly think two political parties are adequate for a country of 300 plus people? Very diverse people at that. I don't, and I'm sick and tired of people like you acting as if there is something wrong with supporting a party outside of our current two part monopoly. Two parties are just slightly better than one...and when the two parties agree with eachother behind closed doors, as they do on more subjects than you would like to admit, do we still have democracy?

Abortion? It was a state issue until the liberal justices on the Supreme Court decided to impose their views upon America, without a vote.

Homosexual rights? Name one right that a heterosexual has that a homosexual doesn't. Regarding marriage, everybody has the right to marry someone of the opposite sex, with some restrictions. So, what right don't they have? And we're not seeking any changes - the human law for millenia has been that marriage is between a man and a woman. How is not changing something considered "intrusive"?

Perhaps you need to go back, study up on an actual issue, and present a position backed by logic, facts and rationality, instead of some insipid opinionated whining.

>Why do conservatives feel they can use the government to control the actions of others?

Um...because they can?

>conservatives constantly say they are for small, limited government? Abortion? Homosexual rights and equality? Suddenly a more intrusive and powerful government is fine. How can they be taken seriously?

I agree, it's total hypocrisy. They talk about being in favor of free speech and personal freedom, then they want to ban abortion, gay marriage and flag-burning.

This sounds like a tactic best justified by a/any third party supporter. Join a/any third party because they don't stand a chance of a win and then you have every right to b*tch about the current party. This gives them the right to b*tch 100% of the time.

Abortion restrictions are to protect unique human offspring.

Homosexuals have the same exact rights as anyone else. They just don't have to right to tell the majority of Americans that a marriage is something other than what society has said it is for thousands of years.

No controlling there sweetie.

Well you asked the question so it's up to you to give some examples of -- 'homosexual rights' that are being with-held ?
'equality' that is missing ?
'More intrusive and powerful government' is fine ?
'use the gov't to control the actions of others ?

I disagree on all points , but can't address any specific ones cause you never addressed any of your claims .

Banning abortion (except in cases of rape, incest, and immediate mortal danger of the mother) is protecting life and the right to life. Covered in the founding document(s) of our country.

Homosexuals and those who support homosexual "marriage" are the ones trying to use government to IMPOSE or control the actions. They are trying to force redefinition because of the will of a very vocal minority. Try just going with "civil union" and not trying to redefine marriage away from what it always has been.

Yet you libs cry to be controlled by entitlement programs, bureaucracy health care, wealth redistribution, and the like..... ridiculous... it is you libs who cannot be taken seriously... learn what is constitutional and in original intent

Oh no you don't. It's not the Conservatives who constantly want to impose more and more regulations and taxes on everyone. Conservatives want SMALLER government and less interference. It's the liberals who want to constantly stick their noses into everyone's business and want to regulate every aspect of your life. Case in point; the San Francisco libs have now banned you from smoking in your own home.
