He did not even have a dentist in the episode where he had to go to the dentist. He had to go see Terry's friend. Did Jack tripper not know how important it is to go to the dentist every 6 months for proper dental care. His toothache could have been avoided with the proper checkups. Judging by the evidence presented I bet he did not floss.

In that day not everyone was fiancially able to keep checkups and we have always had a fear of the dental pain. Today we still have the fear but more people have insurance and everyone pretty much follows a life long dental plan.

Jack did not like needles. Case in point, the episode that he meets Terry, after cutting his finger at the restauraunt. She had to trick him into bending over to give him the shot.
Dentist give you shots too. That is why he didn't like to go.
I do not know much about his flossing habits I must say.
