i suffer from panic attacks and do not want to take medication because im 21 weeks pregnant. my sister took paxil during her pregnancy, when the doc said it was safe and her son has seizures from the paxil. so i cant trust when a doc says that something is safe. my question is, is it even worth it to tell my OB about this? i told him the first check up, he said we would monitor it. wow. no other form of help there. so i would like to know what the heck to do about all of this. i was on xanex to control these things but refuse to take that while im pregnant. there has GOT to be another way around all of this.

If you don't want to take meds, how can you make the panic attacks go away? Your brain doesn't have certain chemicals that help you control the panic. Without those chemicals, it's going to be very difficult to help you.
Check out meditation if you haven't already. If you get really good at it, you can flee to your quiet spot and the anxiety attack will be arrested.
You might also want to check out acupuncture. It's been around a very, very long time, and is an acceptable and effective way to treat medical issues.
I hope you're able to control your attacks. I've only had one in my life, and it was terrible.
Congratulations on your new little one!!

Your back and stomach may be hurting because all your muscles are stiffening up when you have a attack. You should call a dr and see if you can get in soon to see if there is anything you can do to help control the attacks. You probably cant take any medicine for it right now but you can try to learn some breathing techniques to calm yourself down and that can help you with labor as well. Try to stay away from stressful situations and if something starts to bother you walk away and calm yourself down before you go back. Stress and panic attacks are not good for you or the baby. I know its going to be hard but you have to control your stress level. Remember to just breathe through it and walk away if a situation gets to stressful. Good Luck! And CONGRATS on the baby!

Hi there, I just laugh about my past 3 years of panic now. I was not able to go anywhere without carrying xanax. Fear of having another attack was the most important subject of my days. When i first found joe barry's web site i started to cry because of my happiness.

I suffer from sever anxiety with panic attacks. I took Xanax before I was pregnant, and couldn't take it during my pregnancy. I told my OB and she said to take Tylenol PM or Benedryl. I would take two Benedryl before work. It made me tired, but I was able to get through the day. I would also take one mid-afternoon. You wouldn't think it would help, but it really did! Maybe give it a try! I hope everything works out for you! Anxiety and panic attacks are a horrible thing to live with!

hiya , I would be very wary of taking that sort of medication whilst your preggers , I have never even taken a paracetamol during any of my pregnancies.
If all your gp wants to do is throw pills at you ,stand your ground with him/her tell them that you have got to find an alternative to them as you do not want to harm your baby, speak to your midwife as well I expect that she will have dealt with other women that also suffer like you she will probably know of some support groups or relaxation classes that could help you.
try to find out if you have got an anti natel yoga class near you and rope a freind in to going with you for moral support , yoga is a very good thing to do not only will it help you keep fit through your pregnancy but they teach you specialist deep breathing techniques that not only will help you keep calm but will also help when your in labour.
rember stand firm DONT be pressured to give in to your gp do what you think is right and dont take no for an answer.! good luck hon hope everythin works out for you x

I know panic attacks are awful as i have them, but please try not to take any pills while pregnant unless they have been proven to be really safe during pregnancy then you always have to take caution.Good luck.
