I suppose I'm getting at...

I wander into a joint called "Gender & Women's Studies" and I find the level of discourse a little amusing and most disheartening. Not that I'm above being an asshole but... why take the time? Why not go fishing instead?

Well, THAT was interesting. Thanks, all, for your input Sorry I can't give out more than one "best answer".

Yes there is something wrong with these people and yes I sometimes wonder why they come here and troll and hate on us. I'm talking about anti-feminists and woman haters.

The only reason I can think of is that they have personal problems and they are not successfull (I don't mean just money) or happy in their lives or successfull and happy in their personal relationships with women..even if they are women!

Blaming women and targeting women in here is easy and takes no courage. Harassing women in email and stalking our questions and answers is easy and takes no courage.

And calling us cowards when we don't want to bother with their hatefull and nasty behaviour and block them is soo typical of them and tells you what you need to know about them.

The only thing I can say is they are cowards with no class.

I could take this chance to bash on the men that linger in this forum and post nasty comments, but instead I will try to sympathize and be understanding of where they are coming from. I really don't need the hassle of being frustrated in my life anyway.

I have a couple theories though...

1) they are simply trying to upset... men and women alike. weather they are upset by the feminist movement or not, the sole intention is to entice or stir the pot... aka troll

2) men or women who feel that feminism has taken something away from men's rights. I can sympathize with them on a level. For example, the first thing I thought, before I read or posted anything in this forum, was "where is the men's studies forum"? Maybe these men/women feel that they are up against the wall, this being the reason they shout such hatefully propaganda?

3) argumentative men or women who feel the need to represent the "other side" of an issue or opinion.

imo

THANK YOU! That's what I've been wondering myself! The first time I "wandered in" to this forum I was shocked and amazed by the amount of negativity here toward women and toward feminism. I guess the reason I still visit this forum is to try and correct some of the misconceptions certain people seem to have toward these subjects. After spending a few months here, I am sad to say that things haven't really changed that much. It's hard to know if my presence here is really making any difference at all. Sometimes I think it is, but it's with women more than it is with men (anti-feminist men)- and it's the antis I'm trying to "reach. Sometimes I wonder who has the biggest "disorder"- them for posting the crap they post, or me for spending so much time trying to refute it (and getting seemingly nowhere.)

Maybe. But they, in my opinion, are making themselves miserable by not listening to the reasonable voices. They post the same arguments over and over, which are refuted with logical facts and they refuse to accept. They just rephrase and re-post.

The argument men are stronger- so they are superior is an example. What that has to do with everyday life is beyond me.

I never knew that I was unable to read a map or parrallel park until read responses on this forum. I have been doing both, well, for years.

I am not sure why some of them are so bitter. They may have been raised to be superior and find they live in a world that they will have to navigate on their own skills, not simply be the judged the best cause they are male.

I think it is just because feminsim has been given a sterotype of over radical men hating women who would do anything to have a female dominating world. Which obviously, for the majority of feminists, is not the case.

Hollywood creates a prejudice about feminist groups and people who don't know any better are willing to believe that this must be the way it is...

This is a blind format. Which means that those people who would never have the courage to say mean things face to face with others, can use the anonymity to spew their hatefulness. It is no different from the Klan of yesteryear. These people just have a broader range.
I do wonder who they are sometimes, I bet that they have to be subordinate each day to a person of the race, sex, religion that they rant about.

I dont think there is anything wrong with these people. I just think they dont simply agree that women are equal as men and for that they are being judge or called names. Remember freedom of speech goes both ways. Some feminist want to be able to speak freely and they expect people to listen to them, yet they wont allow anybody with a different opinion than theirs to speak. (funny and stupid uh) and I believe this is the same case with many other groups like gays, religious and all races who call each other racist. Like I said people ask for thing they wont give in the first place. They wanna be looked as an equal yet they dont wanna listen to others ideals

Some of them are genuine chauvinists who just want to get a rise out of people.

Others are men who truly care about equality, but mistakenly believe that feminists want MORE than equality and are seeking superiority over men. True, some women who have called themselves "feminists" have done this, but because they were seeking preferential treatment and superiority, they are by default not feminists.

You can usually tell who believes in equality and who doesn't. I often agree with men from the latter group on many things.

I think there have been a lot of misunderstandings spread, and they've been made to seem like truth by those few people who take it too far. We all know there are feminists that want to "crush" men, or who embrace those bad, militant stereo-types, but not everyone realizes that they are NOT the norm.

I come here because I am a woman; a woman who does not believe in equality. Ever hear how the topic of abortions go around here? When a man states his feelings he'd told he should've been wearing a comdom. Now turn around and ask the same woman who just said that what she did to protect herself, she'd most likely tell you I'm a woman that's his problem not mine. So, should I? That's going a bit extreme, yet those words are between the lines. Then you have the child visatation cases. When a dad is denied to see his own kids I do not call that equality. Oh and should I go into the spousal abuse cases nothing is ever equal there. By the way those feminists had better not live in glass houses if they want to be throwing stones cause those on the other side are going to throw them back. Besides; despite our differences around here we do maintain proper decorum.
