I am so tired of people coming forth saying, "We heard him talking about it, but we didn't take it seriously."

How many children and teachers have to die before we learn to speak up and take action against people who talk about doing violence to others.

ITS NOT A JOKE!!!!! Even talking about killing someone should be punishable.

Young students please, don't be afraid to speak up next time you hear someone talking about violence in your school. YOU MAY NOT GET A SECOND CHANCE!!!

PHATULE--You make an excellent point and that is something that bothers me too. Kids do need to learn that it's not okay to bully others.

This is something that I'm sure parents try to advocate, but we have to agree that kids do their "own thing" at school.

I was bullied in middle school myself and I know for a fact the school administration really don't do much. The little they do would just get you bullied more by the person for "telling on them".

It's sad! (Sigh) My heart goes out to the parents and children who have to suffer on "both" sides of this.

Good question. How many times DOES it take? I work in a public school (k-6) and we KEEP our classroom doors locked at all times for security purposes. It seems as if the kids that are doing the shootings are getting younger and younger. In the town I live in an 10 yr. old took a gun to school, shred it with friends, and then used it to steal shoes from another student. These are just SOME of the reasons why I chose to homeschool my son.

I am sick and tired of all the attention being paid to the so-called "innocents" who were just "minding their own business" before being "gunned down" by "some crazy". Until this world wakes up and realises the shooter is not the guilty party, the real criminal(s) is/are the mean vicious ugly bullies that made the poor student's life an absolute living hell, the bullies are going to continue to be sentenced to death for their heinous crimes, as well they should. My heart breaks not for the shot but for the shooter. Here are some questions those who contemplate this issue need to seriously consider: How many names was the shooter called? By how many of the ugly turds he/she was unfortunate enough to have to go to school with? And how incessantly? How many groups/friendships/relationships was he/she pointedly or secretly excluded from? How many parties was he/she not invited to? THIS IS THE SORT OF ACTION THAT IS NOT A JOKE!!!!! This should be punishable, that it isn't (by the so-called "authorities") is why the poor, unfortunate, beleaguered, besieged, bullied student is forced to resolve the issue him/her self. There is a very old expression that goes: "You reap what you sow". The school bullies sowed the seeds of violence with their treatment of their fellow classmate(s) as worse than a worthless piece of s***. It is THEIR fault, not the shooter's, that they reap their own destruction.

There is a thing in this country called freedom of speech, those who are raised responsibly know that there is indeed a responsibility that goes along with that freedom, but those who are not raised responsibly don't know. You are talking about punishing people for what they say....and that is unconstitutional. What needs to happen is for parents to be licensed to have children, they need to learn how to parent properly before producing offspring and licensure is the best way to insure this will happen.
When someone speaks in an irresponsible fashion, you are right, it MUST be reported to someone in authority, but again that is a matter of training the children who might hear such things, properly, and again that is the parent's job. Parents need to stop using schools for glorified free baby sitters and expecting schools to raise thier kids for them...they need to take a much more active role in teaching their own children what is right and wrong. When this happens, school shootings will stop.

I feel sorry for you guys in the USA having to live with a gun culture. We, in the UK, are just starting to suffer from the same thing (shootings involving youths).

I honestly believe that the only way to control this is to take away the right to keep a gun without a far more strictly controlled licensing. I would advocate a total ban if this was practical.

I don't think that is really the problem, I think that it is sad that we have to take people seriously for things like that. We need to get to the beginning of the problem and not the end. What makes these kids do things like that. Teach them to respect each other, treat others the way you want to be treated. Empathy. That is the real problem. If we could get that back we would see a lot less crime in adolescents.

Hello,

They can start by bringing back strict discipline in the schools and letting the teachers and principals be in charge and running the show.

When the parents cannot accept the fact that their precious ones may be simpletons or trouble makers and create problems for the school administration and let their kids be the boss then what the hell can we expect?

Cheers,

i'm tremendously particular it became suitable after mothers and dads stopped keeping their babies in charge for his or her strikes for the time of life. probably they have been too wrapped up of their very own lives to even word what their babies have been doing, you know, divorced-discern syndrome. Mommy and daddy constantly bailing their babies out of trouble each time they do something stupid truly of coaching them a lesson is what led to this style of element. the 1st time their babies stole a %. of gum from the save, they could have dragged them into the save by potential of their ear, made them say sorry profusely and pay off two times what the %. of gum became well worth. Does that take place?? NO!! truly the mothers and dads do not even word or they only tell them to not do it returned. Why might the youngster pay attention?? They get to maintain the gum, they don't could pay for it, there are almost NO effects for his or her strikes, so WHY not proceed in this egocentric direction?? babies learn at an early age that they could do in spite of they choose, all they could do is scream loud sufficient and mommy and daddy will cave. we've ourselves responsible, as a results of fact we decide for to do what's undemanding truly of what's suitable.

Agreed. 100%.

But let's add parents/guardians into the mix here. Students in school (and teachers/guidance counselors) should certainly be on the lookout for people who seem to have troubled minds, and so should the parents. Parents should be the first line of "defense."
