What does this term "ROTO" mean - in relation to (American/NFL) football? I am a big football fan, and I enjoy fantasy football. (Again, I'm talking about NFL football - not soccer.) Here are some examples where I've seen the term ROTO used:

1. There is a fantasy football website called rotohog.com.

2. There is a fantasy football expert for ESPN who writes a column called "The Talented Mr. Roto".

3. There is a football news service called ROTOWIRE.

I have searched the web and cannot find any answers on this. Can you help me?

THANKS!

BY THE WAY - I already emailed the web sites to ask for the answer but they have not responded. Furthermore, I already know that ROTOWIRE is a brand name for stats, I stated that myself in the original post. TRY READING THE QUESTION BEFORE TRYING TO ANSWER IT. Hope you enjoy your 2 points for your non-answer. To all of you who actually read my question and try to answer with something real, I thank you!!

It's nothing to do with football in particular, but with fantasy sports in general. Roto is short for Rotisserie, which comes from a restaurant called La Rotisserie Francaise where Daniel Okrent, the man generally credited with the creation of fantasy sports (baseball in this case) met with some friends to run their first league.

Fantasy stuff existed before Okrent, but he was among the first to really popularize it and profit from it:

This is a really good question and I have often wondered it myself. What exactly is the difference in scoring between rotisserie and head to head? Craig answered some of the question but not all.

I've wondered that, too. Try asking them on their website.
