Sorry to say, but you really deserved to be fired. First off, Just cause you can't understand another language doesn't make it "crap"!
Second, America is a mixing bowl for different languages and cultures! Get used to it! No one says you have to learn spanish, but you dont have to be a b**** about it either!
Maybe they were just visiting here or something, non the less, you shouldn't have said that. You better stop being closed minded and get used to it.

Learn to say "No habla Espanol" [ I don't speak Spanish ].
Read some "Conduct in the Workplace' info.
The customer is always right, so you WERE rude. "spanich crap?' What a narrow attitude!
Many people in this country have English as a second language, including two of my grandparents, and all of my greats. [ German, Irish, Dutch, etc. ]
Many others can read/write English much better than they can speak it.
NO PLACE does it say "English is the US official language."
By the way, "America" would include Canada, Mexico, and South America, where English is NOT the first language.

Kaylein,
I am sorry you lost your job over this.
It sounds like this person was being rude to you as well.
But in her own native language.
America really is tolerant to any one no matter their origin it is the principal this great country was founded on.
Besides that, when your on the job however you have to be courteous. If its a situation you could not handle call your manager to deal with her.
Then let off some steam with a good buddy or something.
If i were you though I would not beat myself up but consider this a life lesson. Good Luck am sure you'll do fine~

well it was rude. Legal or not, you should have found someone to speak to them in Spanish.
If you were in another country visiting and didn't speak the language, would you want to be treated that way?

And, last time I checked, the US has no Official Language

I am of the opinion that when you are a non English speaking, person in a country such as the UK or USA, then they should be made to learn the language and certainly be made to use the language. My husband was born in Germany, his family moved to England when he was seven. When he went back to Germany to visit, he went into a shop and asked for something speaking English, they asked if he spoke German, he said a little, and they told him use what little you know because you are in my country now and I speak only German.
I'm on your side, I hope you get it sorted, soon.

the reason why u got fired was because you forgot the first rule of customer service..the customer is always right..it doesn't matter if they speak or don't speak..what matters to your company is the $$$$$ and if these illegals are going to spend their money at your company and you do something to offend your "customer" then the company is going to be a bit ticked off because they are going to lose business and they hate it when they lose money..sorry sweetie..that's the business and buisness dont care if your illegal or legal as long as they get profits that's all that matters
