its not all about CCs... although Triumph & a few other manufacturers have made 2000 CC bikes..

& the MV Agusta has the top speed (Busa is not fastest)..

what will happen in the future is that the motors will be made more efficient & you will see the same sort of speeds from 750CC bikes.........

back in the 70s they made very quick bikes in the small CC range.. RD250/350 Yamahas & the Suzuki Two strokes..
the opinion was that two sroke motoes had to be used because you couldnt get the same performance out of a four stoke in a small motor... Honda then changed that thinking with the 400 in line four... & all the others followed suit..

the same will happen with performance bikes in the large capacity..(over 600CCs).. but they will still make big bikes because people buy them....

Throughout the history of motorcycling, this very question has been asked every year. And every year it's been answered by manfacturers looking for more. I think the only difference today is that the speed kings you mention are pushing speed boundaries that either are currently legislated against, or will be if they don't pull back the reigns (hence Suzuki's voluntary speed cap).

Considering the pressures of the law, and practical use - I wouldn't expect to see production motorcycles going much faster than they are now. But I would expect them to reach top speed quicker, and with more control.

for top speed hayabusa is on top and will be there for a while, if you want accelleration speed look at a cbr 954 or suprisingly the gsx 1100-1000 or even 600. Can't keep up with the busa after 1/4 but on the way there they can at least run with it.
