I have an associate of arts and I'm not sure I want to go back to school as of this moment. I know I should, but I really want to get some work experience. Am I qualified to work government jobs, or some other I'm not thinking of? Should I go back and use my gen. ed and take a few more classes and get a more technical a.a? (I do not necessarily want to spend the time or money to get a bachelor's at this time). Thanks!

If you're thinking of getting another AA, get a BA instead. You can even do it online. As for government jobs, it all depends on the job. Look it up.

These days, if you want something like a government job, you should have a bachelor's degree. It may not be an absolute requirement, but it will be a huge help. There are a lot of convenient options for getting them and you can work at the same time. If you think you'd like a general office-type job, your best bet is to work part time in an office and take as many classes as you can. If you want to work for the government, get a degree in whatever sounds interesting. You're more likely to stick with it and most agencies won't care what your degree is in unless they have specialized requirements. In California, at least, the state government has student assistant positions that are usually very flexible hours and decent pay. If you work part time for the government for a couple years while you get your degree, you shouldn't have much trouble at all when it comes to your full time job hunt.

Not alot. You really need a Bachelor's degree. You may get a little bit higher pay with an associates than you would with just a H.S. Degree, but not much. You really need to spend the time and money for the Bachelor's degree. It's worth it.

Go back to school! You will have to get a Bachelors degree with todays job market. Even then you may not be guaranteed a top of the line job.

The AA degree is intended for one thing: preparing you to go on to a four year college and get a BS or BA.

To realize the true value of an AA ask yourself these two questions:

1. What do they call someone who goes to a community college for two years who has a C average?

2. What do they call someone who leaves Harvard after two years with a Straight A Average?

3. Which one would you hire? (which one has the better education?)

The answer to the first question is: Associate of Arts.

The answer to the second question is: College Drop-out

The answer to the third question is "The College Drop-out"

Go back to school and get your BA.
