While it is possible to be an IT person without knowledge of computers, you would be limited to aper shuffling and personal management. To be effective, you need an understand of computers.

Begin by working towards an MCSE certificate. (Microsoft Certified System Engineer, if you are not familiar with the term). It is a series of 6 test you have to take to demonstrate your understanding of computer/IT technology.

Most colleges, junior college, and trade schools offers classes to prepare you for the exams. There are also excellent books and online classes for studying for them.

Since you are looking to go towards IT managment more than "repair", I would recommand beginning with Server 2003, or other classes geared more towards IT then repair. (But you will have to take the "repair" clases eventual).

Once you have a Server certification (one exam), with your business background you would probably be able to find entry level work as a sys admin. Continue your certifications and you can work up from there.

This days one needs to know about computers, especially if you are in business. There are some books you can get either from your local library or bookstore. ''Teach yourself IT'', ''IT for dummies''. And you should also look in your local newspaper, they somethimes offer free IT courses.
