Guitar is a great way to start... you can get a pretty cheap instrument and teach yourself to play!
I started out with violin. The suzuki method is a great teaching tool to create little virtuosi who can't read music (haha!). Then in college I ended up majoring in voice. I also taught myself guitar. I wish that I could play piano better... its really the instrument that can give you a heads up on all the other ones.

I play clarinet and bass clarinet. I've played clarinet for 5 yrs and Bass clarinet for 3.
In music we were taught guitar and keyboard. I could play enough to get an A in music but I wasn't all that good.
I have always wanted to play the saxaphone though. It's the first instrument I have ever wanted to play.

I play the bass guitar. Doesn't sound like a very classical instrument but I assure you that bass instruments are one of the two essential pieces of any good musical score. the percussion being the other.
I've been playing for 3 years now and I know a variety of classical, to include beethoven's "fur elise" as well as his "symphony #9" because of the movie "a clockwork orange"

I've played piano for about 11 years. And I am teaching myself guitar. Piano is a really good base in strument. It gives you a foundation for pretty much any other one you want to try. I was able to pick up a guitar on my first day and read music and play by ear pretty easily.

I play tuba, guitar, and I sing baritone. However, I did not learn quickly to do any of it. What instrument do you like? That is probably the instrument you should take up. Take it nice and slow. It takes most people about 5 years of constant practice and instruction but anyone can do it.

Flute (6 years)! Piano (7 years), piccolo (4 years) and violin (7 months). I love music! Flute is definitely my all time favorite. You should learn to play something.

I come from a family of musicians. I have been homeschooled my whole life, and my parents thought it was very important for my sisters and I to have music in our lives. I play the violin, piano, oboe, saxaphone, cello, guitar, and drums. My favoites to play are the violin, cello, and piano. You said you don't play any insturments...get a do-it- yourself piano book and teach yourself...you won't regret it :) Good luck!
