If you take ALL the seniors from this site, what a wonderful fun place it would be. We could finally meet face to face all those we have grown to love as friends among other things.
We have the knowledge to really create a wonderful place.
It wouldn't matter what your race, religion, sexual preference, etc. were either. Just a bunch of old farts having fun.
May sound a bit like a fantasy but it's only a fun question.

For the "YOUNG Lass" who wanted me to go watch cocoon or something: You might try reading the WHOLE question without reading ANYTHING into it. Making friends here is very important to MOST of us & kidding around is part of it.

Dragon, you are absolutely
intuitive. Let's think on this.
Maybe we actually SHOULD
form our own nation, or island, or just go somewhere where we can actually live free again.
Our combined experiences and mental abilities are far more than what's being shown now in this country.
I know, there are those that
can't leave their families, but
I'm ready for a commune in
??? there are now ex-pats
living all over the world.
I'm for an island somewhere
with a temperate climate.
If we have good soil, we can
provide our own food.
Instead of living our lives by
ourselves with noone who
understands us, why not
live it together? with people
who understand Seniors?
No, I'm not hitting the weed
today, but I am wondering why most Seniors are so alone and lonely and in poverty?

It is a fun, what would it be like question. Maybe we wouldn't spend all our time in our fantasy nation, anymore than we spend all our time here, but being there might be a nice break. I know I'd like to meet all the folks on here and think we could have some great times. We all still have so much to do and so much to share.

Cute question that I know you do not mean. I can just imagine sitting around, comparing notes about yesterday, the day before, and........ Lord, can you imagine how boring it would get, and how quickly it would get so? ON the other hand, IF we do set such a place up, I want the entire rights to Denture Cream and Depends! I also want the rights to electric carts and electric wheel chairs! You all can bicker over the rest of the staples needed, all I want is what I have listed. I also want the right to hire smart - @ $ $ kids to run the stores so we won't feel totally out of place :-) Love and peace, Phil

I'd like to visit there, but I am not sure I'd want to live there. There are old folks and there are OLD folks. I've seen OLD 20-year-olds, and 80-year-olds who are still young. Go figure. Some people are just born old. Once we figure out that old is a state of mind, not a number of years, we'll all be a lot better off.

As long as it has an in-house crematorium, then it MIGHT be do-able! For me, it just sounds like another "New Age" fallacy that someone wants to bring back into style (like tie-dye). Geriatric communes...what a novel concept! Since all the good "L" is gone, what would be the purpose of such a "gathering"? Sorry, but I want to see Crosby Stills & Nash like I remember them...young & wild...not old & stale! Good God...just thinkin' about it makes me want to puke! Someone is bound to end up going "postal", then when they empty their AK-47's into the crowd, I'll know it was just for entertainment purposes!!! What a fun day it will be! I won't hold my breath for an invitation.

It would be a hoot, we could pass the single malt, throw darts at the bingo boards, snug up and take a nap when ready, feel no remorse over the aches and pains, soar thru the air on a dragons back, sharp our swords for the attacks from the wee beasties, burn some heather for atmosphere and bind the bonds. Name the time and place breather of fire and truth.

I like Donya's and Princess Luvy's suggestions...a resort (maybe an island all on it's own) run just for Seniors where we set the pace and figure out what we want to have available to entertain ourselves.

And we could do something like timeshare condominiums on it so that we could end up visiting two or three times a week for a few weeks or a month at a time. The mix of seniors there would be continuously changing, so it would never grow stale.

And who says it has to be boring? I for one would just LOVE to learn to snorkel and water-ski! And to keep us enlivened, we could even do "theatre-like" entertainments, where we have to come up with our own story line AND act out our plays! That mixed with just soaking up sun during the day (there are heavy duty sunscreens) sounds just about ideal to me!

And the best part would be meeting face to face...now that could be the funniest, seeing if we could all recognize each other just from what we've told and shared about ourselves! Tho' you asked this in fun, sounds like a great place to me!

It wouldn't work for me because it doesn't reflect the real world. I still have a lot to learn from everybody -young and old. But if you ever do create a "elderly nation" I'd be happy to visit sometime.

2007-10-11 05:46:13 · answer #10 · answered by Anonymous · 2 1

Although I guess it would be neat to meet some of the members and see how close the 'real' is to the mind image; I wouldn't want to live in our very own elderly nation...same as I don't want to live in a senior community...I like diversity in most things including age.

SO why not let's have a get to know ya party somewhere! - maybe goldwing will host it! lol
