What if the Indians beat the Red Soxs (after the Red Sox were predicted to win) and the Indians go on to win the World Series? Will Cleveland then get the respect that they have been denied? Or will the commentators and sportcasters turn a blind eye on the Indians? When the Indians beat the Yankee's, it was more important to show the press conference of Joe Torre and the fact he won't be returning next season?

By the way Yankee's fans, you did put up a good fight, but I think now is time the Indians got their respect they deserve.

If the Indians win, well, the media will still resent that it wasn't the Yankees, but at least they have a good story, probably the best that will be available.

National media perception predictions:

Snakes -- won in 2001, so, ho-hum. Young expansion franchises aren't supposed to win, let alone win twice, no matter that the Marlins and Blue Jays have done so. Storyline: "see how free agency has ruined baseball!" (never mind that this makes no sense whatsoever)

Rox -- Helton and a cast of dozens. The thin air makes baseball into pinball. Storyline: "well, at least we haven't been here before. Denver this, Colorado that, Rocky Mountains etc., why isn't John Denver here?" (some media members will have missed his obituary)

Tribe -- third long championship drought to appear in the last four years. 1948. 1954. Feller, Lemon, Joe Carter, Belle (boo! hiss!). 1995. 1997. Someone will think up some idiotic "curse" but it won't be as interesting as Ruth or the goat.

And, finally, given that the Red Sox won in 2004 (86 year drought ended) and the White Sox in 2005 (88 year drought ended), if the Indians DO take home the trophy and end their own 59 year drought, Cubs fans (99 and counting) are going to get very, very irritated.

As a Yankee fans I have no problem with the Indians except for some of their fans. When an Indian fans says that the Yankees suck, it's their opinion yes, but remember one thing & that is how many seasons in a row did Yankees make the play-offs & win 90+ games year. How did the Indians do the last 12 years compared to the Yankees? Who won more series titles? I realize that the Yankees haven't won since 2000, but the Indians haven't won it since 1948. Facts are facts. This is also Indians first time to AL Championship since 1998 & yes you did win that series but lost to the Braves in the World Series. I had family that lived up in Cleveland many years ago & they are still die hard Indian fans & I would like to see Cleveland win a World Series title this year. The only team I dislike is the Red Sox is because they are in the same division as Yankees. I respect the Indians & most of their fans except the ones who bad mouth the Yankees who are probably one of the favorite teams in all sports. If Indians beat Boston but lose in World Series, will Indian fans feel they got respect they deserved because they made it to the World Series. Good luck Indians the rest of the play-offs & go out there & beat the Red Sox

Probably not, but be happy they aren't bathed in the national spotlight. Like the White Sox in 2005, nobody really talked about them, they didn't get the respect they deserved, they flew under the radar and next thing you know they are having a ticker tape parade in downtown Chicago. Keep flying under the radar, and before you know it, Cleveland will be celebrating a World Series Championship! I love the Red Sox, but I'm also really rooting for the Indians because they are in the AL Central and that would be 3 straight years an AL Central team has been in the World Series!

Good one, Da King.

Baseball fans will respect those teams that deserve it, and they do respect the Indians; however, the media is a different animal.

There is an east coast bias because that is where the media's bubble is. They spend their days in the bubble with other east coast reporters, reading east coast papers, and listenting to east coast talk radio. Before you know it, they believe the rest of the country only cares about their east coast bubble because they spend very little time out of it. This is incest at its worst. If you don't believe it, ask those on the west coast about college football polls. To me, it's a disgrace, but then again there are few things in life that unites Clevelanders with those in LA such as a topic like this.

And for those of you how doubt the existence of the east coast bias answer me this -- how else would Beckett win the Cy Young (that I am fairly sure he will win) even though he has inferior stats to Lackey, Sabathia and Camona? Because he had one more win due to unworldly run support? I do believe this -- if Beckett and Sabathia's stats were reversed Beckett would win the Cy Young based on the same argument used for Sabathia right now.

i would the indians to win it all but just like the white sox did in 2005 they will not get the respect they deserve. i thought that was wrong when all the television shows were more focus on joe torre explaining to the media if he wants to come back. if cleveland wins this will show mlb and the rest of the haters that the american league central is the toughest division in baseball

Joe Torre not returning is not a fact as you stated

People that love baseball will give the Indians respect if they win and isn't that all that really matters.

I think that the Indians have the respect, and the Clevland Fans are just not seeing it.

Look at just about any preseason guide.

It would have told you that the indians are one of the teams to beat in the AL Central.

I think the clevland fans like the sense that they don't get the respect.

It gives them something to grip about and keeps them out of the media microscope that other teams have to deal with.

i think the Indians will get the respect they deserve if they beat Boston. The whole Torre thing has overshadowed Cleveland which they could use to their advantage.

This question is getting old.

In order to gain respect you actually have to WIN something. You were SUPPOSED to beat the Yankees this post season.

The last time the Indians won the World Series was 1948. Win something that matters, then you'll get your respect.

No, then cleveland will be burned for beating the red sox. Didn't your mother teach you not to slander the almighty?
