reality shows aren't real!?

Question

why are they called "reality" shows? there's nothing real about being stranded on an island, or racing across the u.s. or trying to latch onto a rich bachelor, or eating roaches for money. i'm getting sick of them. they all have to be so dramatic, and when you yhink about it, they are just stupid!

I learned long ago that reality isn't as interesting as they made people believe. Think about your life ... would you really want to watch your life on TV? I know that half the time I don't even want to be in my life.

So, you can call it "alternate reality" TV, because I doubt any "reality" show actually shows real life, because real life is boring. I rather like watching these "stupid" shows because it's an escape FROM reality.

Many of those shows should be called junk instead of reality shows I think all you mentioned really shouldn't be considered reality shows especially like the bachelor I mean these ladies only know this guy a few days and they cry when he doesn't pick them like he was going to marry them when does that happen in reality and you can tell a lot of them are so staged. Real? I think not!

Well there are certain ones where I agree with you,the thing is when these people are crying the camera will be right in they're face,so it's not like they can hide and I think some people can stage they're behavior to win of the public and be more noticed.Also it seems like more recent shows seem to clone the ideas of older ones but with a more 'dramatic' appeal to get the viewers up.

They're game shows.

I consider reality tv to be those shows that you see on Discovery and such that actually document real live.
