I agree with HT. Last year she wasn't looking all that great, then she ran into some form and won the US Open. That may very well happen again. Or it may not.

Interesting question! She really has about a 50-50 chance right now.

I see two things possibly happening with Sharapova. Either her shoulder problem will adversly affect her serve for the rest of her playing career (in which case she will not win another slam), or she will recover/adapt from the injury and become her old self again.

The fundamental issue with Sharapova right now is her serve. When you look at how she serves today compared to how she served when she was making at least the semifinals of every slam she entered, there is a huge change. She used to have the best combined first and second serve in the womens game. I know she has shoulder issues but her first serve right now is often less powerful than her second serve used to be. That's ridiculous! For an aggressive baseline player to have such a dramatic change in one of their primary strokes like that basically damages their entire game.

When Sharapova was winning slams, she was doing it pretty convincingly (6-1, 6-4 over Serena at 04 Wimbledon and 6-4, 6-4 over Justine at the 07 US Open). She was also taking out heavy hitters like world number one Linsay Davenport at the time and she still has a winning record over Venus Williams. So clearly, when she was at the top of her game she could beat any of the other top players.

The question is, can she ever get back to the top of her game. I think the answer to this question will be revealed sometime in late 2008. Sometime between Wimbledon and the US Open of next year, we will know where she stands for the rest of her career. If she continues to be dominated by the Williams sisters as of late and Justine Henin, not to mention getting beat by players outside the top 10, the it's a safe bet that she will not win another slam. But if she fixes her serve and becomes competitive with those players again, she will. It's pretty much that simple!

Yes, probably, but she needs to concentrate 100% and be fit. She's only 20 (feels like she's been around forever) and Mauresmo won her first two Grand Slams at 27 if I'm not mistaken so there should be some more Grand Slams to come for Sharapova..

I agree with Jeff S. It'll be hard for her to win another grand slam, since you know, Henin, Williams sister, Kuznetsova etc are just so amazing, while Sharapova can't seem to do anything special at the moment

yeah sure, right now she is gonig through a downhill rollercoaster but in the future she can definetly win another grand slam. She is still very young and can improve, while on the other hand players like the Williams, Justine, Mauresmo will soon be retiring and everything will be for Sharapova to take all the trophies.

I think there's alot of other young and talented players emerging to be just focusing on one Maria Sharapova, I mean good luck to her if she does win another, she has a long way to go to reach greatness status but I'm all for someone other than her to make a big impact on the circuit, Maria hasn't got very good people skills, from what I've seen!!!

Nah shes turning into Kournikova, shes gonna be remembered for a pretty face and thats all (oh and those silly outfits). No but seriously, I read this morning she just lost 2 another 18 year old no namer, and in 2 sets. Shes terrible. Unless something magical happens like it did for the Williams sisters, I don't think so, no.

maybe...anything is possible on the woman's circuit with all the injuries.

But to me her game has regressed. She is not a great mover, and does not seem to really show improvement from year to year as you would expect from a young hungry player seeking to dominate. Her serve was real good a couple years ago...but seems to now be a weak point. Her power game is no longer that intimidating as it seems more and more of the women can handle and dish the power. She has shown no improvement in her net game nor in her ability to show flexibility in her strokes...such as being able to throw off her opponent with a finesse game, or coming to net more etc.. I think she is suffering perhaps from lack of dedication due to all the distractions...and money she makes away from the tennis court.

Probably, Sharapova isn't a bad tennis player, she just has consistency problems (and her dad coaching her all the time).

When she's on, she can blitz through a tournament. When she's off, she can lose in the first round.

Yes, I think she will win another Grand Slam. I would love to see her win the Australian Open next.
