they mostly get along, but there is still some bad blood, mainly in the North among Catholics who still have to put up with Orange Order-type discrimination.

I've found that generally they get along now. Most of the tourists that come to Ireland are British anyway, and many Irish still live in Britain.

About 10 years ago I got crap from an English man that 'I didn't like him because I am Irish and he's English' to which I replied "no, I don't like you because you're an arsehole", and this fight took place in front of about a dozen English people in a pub in the Netherlands, after I punched the guy for attempting feel me up (I am a self-respecting woman and do not take this kind of treatment from any man).

As it turned out, THEY ALL agreed with ME.

I live in Northern Ireland and have English friends

The British Army has never been popular here as they have always felt like an occupying force not a force that represented people here. Their involvement in atrocities/massacres/assassinations on the island of Ireland and in Northern Ireland in particular will never be forgotten but we've moved on.

Its a normalised place with other stuff to worry about (taxes/football/girls/beer) and generally theres little bad blood left

The relationship is good. Irish people still find English people a bit condescending at times but we tend to keep the animosity to ourselves unless provoked.

Irish people also get on well with Welsh and Scottish people. Probably we all get on better with each other than with English. That is a bit of a generalisation but you can really see it at times, particularly during sporting events when the UK nations are separate. Northern Ireland being the exception to that rule.

To my experaince all is fine, something like that depends on the individuals,Im sure there is ignorance on both sides.I've had more grief from Scottish people than Irish, even though I have scots blood and live in the north of England,so there is no accounting for stupidity.

Actually, I would say considering the bad history between Northern Ireland and England, the two countries get on pretty well these days.

Funnily enough, I would say relations between the English and the Scottish are the most strained these days.
