The character of James T Kirk died in the movie GENERATIONS. (Most feel it was a poorly handled end to such a classic character)

StarTrek.com says regarding canon that nothing is written in stone, so Shatner as Kirk is a possibility.

I feel that Kirk's death was poorly handled and more a part of the TNG era of the franchise. I would have absolutely no problem with Shatner appearing as Kirk in the new movie with no explanation whatsoever.

What do you think?

I felt it was a good way for Kirk's character to end. I didn't get the whole ripple that kept him alive until he was found. It was a bit much for me to enjoy.

Besides I believe Shatner is probably done with Star Trek.

Have you seen Shatner lately. I watch Boston Legal all the time and he's gotten kinda big since his Star Trek days. Even since Generations I think. But he is Kirk and I couldn't see anyone else play that part, so I think he could do it.

I am interested, however, in seeing Zachary Quinto (of Heroes) play Mr. Spock. I can see him doing a really good job. Although he really doesn't have the deep voice of Leonard Nemoy.

I believe he will be as apparently the new JJ Abrams one is more like a prequel and the older versions of the characters are just looking back on their first missions. So they just might make it take place before Generations to make James Kirk come back.

When it is necessary to resurrect dinosaurs you take some DNA from the fossil and splice it into reptilian DNA. That's how they can explain Kirk's return. Maybe they can use the DNA from the lizard creature Kirk fought in the original TV series.

I'm just shocked to learn Captain Kirks character died in Generations. Hmmm makes you wonder how in the world they would write that in to make it work.

They could have him either come back as a "spirit" or that he really wasn't dead, just had some ailment that made him appear dead- happened all the time in the 1800's. OR they could have his character written in as the father of a Kirk, Jr. Possibilities are endless.

I personally think they should leave it as is. The Star Trek series has had so many people die and come back that after a while we feel jaded to what happens to their charter. It's as if we feel it doesn't mater what happens to a character, he will eventually be back any way. It's good to keep seeing our favorite characters, but I like to think of them as mortal like the rest of us.

certain, Simon Pegg is playing Scotty and Eric Bana and Leonard Nimoy are in it too. this is going to likely be directed by utilizing JJ Abrams who did challenge no longer plausible III (Simon Pegg had a small function in challenge no longer plausible III it is probable how he were given the gig as Scotty).

I think the new movie will be with a younger cast for all the crew.
