If suicide is the only 'unforgiveable sin', then why does God say in the bible that the rejection of His only Son, Jesus Christ is the only 'unforgiveable' sin? Look in the Bible. It doesn't say people who've taken their own lives will be damned to Hell. That is just something people tell severely depressed persons' to 'scare' them (so-to-speak) into living, and not killing themselves. I believe that if someone is mentally ill, or very, very depressed, and takes their life as a last means of 'escape' from their anguish, and pain, God will have beautiful MERCY towards them, and grant them peace, and serenity in Heaven with Him and his angels. I'd definatelly miss my loved one if they decided to make the ultimate sacrafice, but I wouldn't hold it against them, and be horribly angry. I would be sad about it for a while, but would understand that they felt, at the time, whether on impulse, or not, it was something that they felt in their heart of hearts, NEEDED to be done. Thats all.

Man made suicide the unforgivable sin. You are correct when you say the rejection of Jesus Christ is. No where in the bible does it state that a person who takes their life will be damned.

Don't get me wrong, I don't believe suicide is right or the way out. But too many people believe that one is hell bound because of it.

Besides, what about the person who asks for giveness just as they take their last breath.

And only God does know their heart

(Mark 3:28-29 KJV) Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme: But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation:

All other sins can be forgiven. However, anyone contemplating suicide may be in danger of going to Hell, as their relationship with the Lord is not intact at that point. Those who would consider suicide may have a severed relationship with Christ and therefore they would enter the real Hell--which is worse than the hellish feelings they are experiencing at the moment.

Ok i dont think that if you commit suicide you will not go to heaven because as you said they want to escape the grief. There is some wrong in your logic though about them killing themself. Just because they felt they needed to die, doesnt make it right. If someone felt that someone else deserved to die and it needed to be done, it doesnt make it right. And also when someone dies of suicide, it a lot of time will hurt loved ones more than regular deaths because of shock and shame. I've never had this happen to me but in our living with loss class we discussed this and thats the way most felt.

It's not an "unforgiveable sin." The only unforgiveable sin is not accepting Jesus as Lord and Saviour-that is the ONLY unforgiveable sin.

Hey Jen, it does say "Thou shall not kill." I think it means yourself as well. Can it be forgiven? Why not...... Who really knows? If you're thinking about it, stop, you have a reason to be here, you just have to find it is all, and one day you will. Maybe your job is to councel people in this situation. To pull them back from the pits of hell into a calmer realm. Alot of people need you. You know that.

Suicide:
2280 Everyone is responsible for his life before God who has given it to him.
It is God who remains the sovereign Master of life.
We are obliged to accept life gratefully and preserve it for his honor and the salvation of our souls.
We are stewards, not owners, of the life God has entrusted to us.
It is not ours to dispose of.

2281 Suicide contradicts the natural inclination of the human being to preserve and perpetuate his life.
It is gravely contrary to the just love of self.
It likewise offends love of neighbor because it unjustly breaks the ties of solidarity with family, nation, and other human societies to which we continue to have obligations.
Suicide is contrary to love for the living God.

2282 If suicide is committed with the intention of setting an example, especially to the young, it also takes on the gravity of scandal.
Voluntary co-operation in suicide is contrary to the moral law.
Grave psychological disturbances, anguish, or grave fear of hardship, suffering, or torture can diminish the responsibility of the one committing suicide.

2283 We should not despair of the eternal salvation of persons who have taken their own lives. By ways known to him alone, God can provide the opportunity for salutary repentance. The Church prays for persons who have taken their own lives.

The catholic church made suicide the big sin. Still not a reason to do it though.

The bible is one of the sickest, most UN-healthy book every written. The Koran is another. Stop reading it and start reading mentally health books, they can be found at the Albert Ellis Institute.
