Take a butter knife and slip it below the sting of the cap/lid and pry a splash (very little or no). What you try to do is launch the vacuum. while the lid is lifted in common terms a fraction, you will hear air go below the cap and the cap will swell a splash. you are able to now use the different information on the thank you to open the lid.. that's going to be lots greater straightforward. Edit... there is not any could desire to drill a hollow as some human beings have suggested. additionally, smashing the jar on the counter only look risky. besides you have already tapped the lid with a hammer and that did no longer artwork. Prying the lid is extremely quite worry-free while not having to do something damaging.

Poke a small hole in the top to let the pressure off and after opening it put a piece of tape over the hole. Or hold it under hot water for abit, then try again. Or got to the store and buy a rubber pad that is made for gripping lids and use it. These have all worked for me.

I use a Cap Snaffler....it's a cone shaped object made out of textured rubber that fits over the cap or lid. It was a "free gift" years ago when my Mom ordered a Veg-O-Matic off TV. It works really well, and saves me from a lot of cursing.

run it under hot water.
if that doesn't work I tap around the edge with a knife.
if that doesn't work I get a rubber pad thingy that lets me get a really good grip on it and try REALLY hard until my face is bright red and all the veins in my forehead are sticking out.
if THAT doesn't work I smash the jar with a hammer - I'm GOING to get that thing open somehow!
and if it just won't smash, then I sit on the counter and cry ...

;O)

I have a pair of pliers that will grab on to a 6 inch diameter lid and pop it open. Unintended kitchen tools sometimes follow a long route to find their true purpose.

I've busted a few jars before. if it's almost empty I'll just bust the top off and eat it all. Or I just get another jar.
