For one, commercialization and another MTV. When people keep getting something thrown in their face being told is 'good' the youngin's tend to believe it easier (not trying to down any particular type of music, I am not fond of most music that has come out recently despite its genre) then the older, more experienced crowd. From what I recall, in my 33 year old mind, is that true Old Skool Hip Hop was admired by people of all races. I know I love a good ol' hip hop beat, Digable Planets and De La Soul to name a couple.
Maybe this person just doesn't want a certain 'type' listening to his/their music? Maybe that's where this percentage is coming from. Over looking at things. And maybe if people stopped buying their albums they would be complaining that the 'white people' are prejudiced because they aren't spending their money on albums and tickets.

Your idea that "white people are more attracted to rap music than blacks" is flawed, as you don't have the break down of what percentage of rap music is bought by African Americans. Assuming we're talking about the US (which, of course, is a silly assumption to make, but in order to prove my point, I will go ahead and make it), the racial break down of the US is 72% white (including Hispanics/Latino people who are racially white) and about 14% are African American (including Hispanics/Latino people who are racially black) So saying that 70% of rap music being bought by whites proves that rap music is more popular with whites then blacks doesn't take into account the fact that there simply are more whites then blacks that are buying ANY type of music, because there are more whites then blacks. This survey also doesn't take into account downloading or file sharing that is not paid for, so no conclusion can really be taken from this data about which race is "attracted" to rap music. We can only say for sure that, of the rap music that is sold, 70% of it goes to white people. Which really doesn't tell us anything about racial preferences. A better way to figure out which race is the true "fans" of rap music would be to figure out what percentage of white Americans have purchased/listened to/downloaded rap music in the past x months. Then you could compare the percentage of African Americans to the percentage of whites. So you might find that 53% of all African Americans have bought rap music in the past month, while only 32% of white Americans can say the same... or it could be the reverse. But the data you present is just useless.

Why are various people perpetuating rasicm by continuing to think in terms of white and black? The various social economic groups that exist are more likely to determine a person's behavior than race.

Same reason why it seems other races are buying it: because it's popular.
