I just started play an acoustic guitar and I want to build the skin on my finger tips faster.

you just need to keep playing more often, but every once in while you need to give they a break for a day or two so they can heal and harden up.

A friend and wonderful guitar player would soak his finger tips in Witch Hazel.

You play until your fingers bleed then hold a lighter flame under your finger tips until the callous over, then start playing again.
I know it sounds brutal, but it worked for me.

Just keep playing. The more you play, the harder your finger tips will get.

scrub your fingertips with something rough - i.e. dish washing up brush and after a little while the healed skin will become hard thereby creating callouses
