Is it just me who thinks that films like the Saw series are absolutely terrible because all they try to do is get as many litres of blood in per scene as possible? There's absolutely no real storyline to these films and what story there is is only indended to lead to more blood.

Why do people like these films? At least films like Nightmare on Elm Street are more psychological.

I agree with you for the most part. I haven't seen the other "Saw" films, but the first one actually seemed to have some story and was a bit psychologically thrilling. But movies like "Hostel" and the remake of "The Hills Have Eyes" are just a gorefest. I have nothing against blood and violence in a horror movie, so long as it isn't used just to see how much can be put on screen. For a long time now, horror films have been without any psychological scare-factor. Everything is just blood and making you jump, which is a really cheap scare. It's not even scary, just startling. Nobody in Hollywood has any imagination any more. What I don't get is that horror movies are so bad now, and yet they seem to be as popular as ever. Today's youth is seriously out of touch with real horror.

I liked Saw because the concept was so original, also 2 and 3 were great and I can't wait to see the 4th one.

How can you say there is no real storyline? I don't think you quite grasped the films ideas!!!!

They are quite gory but that just adds to the "shock value" - i must be desensitised to bloodiness now as I watched all of Saw 3 and most of the women in the audience seemed to be watching the floor or the back of their hands!!!!

Saw I was a very good film, the twist in the story was totally unexpected. However Saw II & Saw III followed the same format but what it lacked in originality it tried to make up for with blood and as a consequence they were predictible. I'm not holding out much interest in Saw IV.

I think a good horror/thriller should have twists in the story to keeping you guessing.

I have to disagree, i'm not into horror movies that are made enirely of blood and guts with no storyline, i think they are pointless and just about anyone could write one but i thought the concept of the 1st Saw movie was very good, fair enough the 2nd and 3rd didnt live up to it. I think films like i know what you did last summer and scream are a total waste of space!

I totally agree with you. Films that scare me are ones like the shining. This is a great film where I am actually more scared when nothing scary or violent is happening. As you say, it is films that are psychological that play on your mind more than seeing a load of blood

I loved the first one and really like Saw 2 also. The third was exactly as you described, though: no plot whatsoever, just maximum gore. I'm a big fan of horror movies, with the stipulation that they are at least scary. Just because I'm ready to vomit while watching a movie doesn't mean it fits the bill.

Psychology is the basis of the Saw movies-they put the viewer in the position of 'what would you do to save your own life'! Quite frankly the thought of cutting my own eyeball out to save my life is far more terrifying than a guy who haunts your dreams with knives for fingers.

Some people find these movies fascinating because of all the gore. In my opinion, these movies are just giving people "IDEAS" on how to kill or torture and get away with it. I think they're (the movies) are sick and I agree that there usually isn't a good plot, just blood and guts.
