"Of all tyrannies a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." C.S. Lewis

Bans on EVERYTHING? By everything, do you mean smoking?
Ever been to CA? I lived in Vista, Poway and 29 Palms. Given the chance, the builders in the CA would build houses on every square inch of property possible even where they could not stand up to earthquakes and mudslides. A few regulations are a small price for people to pay so that their house doesn't slide into a canyon or shake apart in an earthquake.

I guess you are talking about the smoking ban in cars with children. Again, California is competing with New York as the lead "Nanny State". People like Nancy Pelousi are first to complain loud and clear about Bush taking away our rights but sit idly by while her own state continually chips away at peoples freedoms. If second hand smoke is soooooo bad, what about first hand? How many children end up smoking because their parents smoke? Why don't they just make smoking illegal in California? Or is the tax revenue more important than peoples health? I guess it really is all about the money.

California having the most bans on things just goes to proove how liberal the state is. Liberals believe they know better than individuals how everyone needs to behave. They also believe a larger government with higher taxes is the best way to impose their will. This goes along with their march to Socialism and then Communism.

The bans are generally on corporations which, if left unchecked have no reason to preserve humanity other than as a customer base.
I'm not sure I've ever heard anyone try to argue that liberals are more defenders of liberty than conservatives (well, OK, maybe recently over wire tap issues).
Liberals are PROGRESSIVES. That is, they think that we can change society for the better. Sometimes that involves making laws.
Conservatives generally think smaller is better and that for most things, the older way was the better way. Sometimes they are right ... but it was liberals who ended slavery (even though it was the Republican party at the time).

because of liberal hypocrites like CA Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi who is an immigrant labor exploiter. While in 2002 she won a Cesar Chavez award from the United Farm Workers, she and her husband own a Napa vineyard that uses non-union labor. Go figure. These are the kinds of people that run the state.

Isn't Republican Governor Arnold Schwarznegger signing the bill that would make it unlawful to smoke in a car with a minor?
But you will have to be pulled over for another infraction for that to take place.
Still, even though I am an ex-smoker (11 years strong) I find this ridiculous.

Because they know what is best for me. I may not even be able to smoke in my own car soon . . . California has become a safe haven for illegals, and liberals who demand that we think like them. San Francisco is a cest pool, yet I need to be tolerant . . . hahaha, it's just a little frustrating.

Because Libs want to control everyone and everything everyone does, says, how everyone lives, breathes, etc. That's what "freedom" means to a Lib.

Yes, ironic isn't it?
Liberals hate the right to bear arms. The most liberal cities have the most draconian anti-gun policies
