I have several gold, gemstone rings which I need to have enlarged. I was thinking of buying a machine to do this myself. Has anyone ever done their own ring sizing?

The only ring stretcher I have ever seen was a simple, cone shaped object marked with sizes. The jeweler simply placed the ring on it and hammered it down tightly with a wooden mallet. It can only accommodate easily stretched metals and can permanently damage a ring if not done properly.

This is only for use if the ring is bent or just slightly undersized. To really re-size a ring requires the addition or the removal of material. Please be advised that not all rings are re-sizable. You would be far better off having them professionally done. If they are high quality and not re-sizable you may consider selling them, swaping them for something of equal value or have the gems removed and placed in a new setting.
