Very seldom. If the employer is internet Savvy and is concerned about your character, they'd google your name and find your interests. Otherwise they won't bother.

I have heard of this. We talked about it in a couple of my college classes. I remember it in communications and also in a professional development class. Employers will try to gather whatever they can on an employee to try to pick the best for the job. I am not sure that checking myspace and facebook and others are the best way to go about it but they do check. If you have a page that shows how much you party and how wasted you get every weekend then they might not hire you. If you have a person's email address and that person used that email address to sign up for myspace, then it is simple to find the myspace page. You can do a search by email address.

Here are some articles about this. It does happen.

Anything you post on the internet is available to potential employers. This includes myspace.

If you are going to work at a Grocery store they won't do it but certain colleges and higher paying jobs they will. They will more than likely search myspace for your name and e-mail address.
