Not all board games exactly but a ton of fun games...
When we're looking for a party game we tend to go with Apples To Apples, Cranium, Taboo, Scattergories, Jungle Speed or Loaded Questions.
When we have a not so party group we go for Settlers of Catan, Munchkin, Munchkin Cthulhu, Blokus, Set, Chez Dork, Chez Geek or Fluxx.
When it's just my husband and I we play Odin's Ravens, LOTR: The Confrontation, Scrabble, Boggle, Jambo, Caesar & Cleopatra or Blue Moon.
If we have a group over who can REALLY focus and has a lot of time we try to play some Dungeons & Dragons.
Unfortunately right now we play NONE of these things because we just had our first baby and have learned that it's VERY HARD to find time for gaming with a little (2 month old) baby to be looked after.

Scene it!
Well, this is a board and DVD game. It's our favorite and it's great if you have a large number of people over and they are moving about (eating, visiting) b/c the team votes and the game doesn't have to stop when one person is absent.

Scrabble, hands down. I am a director for the National Scrabble Association and play in both our local club and in tournaments! So much fun with every game being different, and it keeps the brain active thereby avoiding Alzheimers.

the best game that i have played is cranium,
it first of all gets people moving around and having fun while playing a board game and there is a kids version (cranium cadoo) so you can get the kids playing too... its so funny when you have to act out some silly things!!!

Personally I love historic simulation boardgames (commonly called wargames) such as those found on http://www.consimworld.com/expo/index.html. These games, while very enjoyable and satisfying often take long to complete and frequently have extensive rules, so they aren't suitable for typical kids.
