apparently my friends think im crazy because i get all my clothes hemmed or taken in professionally. im 22 years old (aka stopped growing a long time ago) and at 5 feet tall..i have a hard time finding pants that are short enough (petites sometimes are too long also) so i buy pants that fit everywhere but the length and have them tailored professionally. i also buy shirts that sometimes dont look good in the store but i take them anyway and have them tailored to fit my body. my best friend thinks im wasting my money and should just look for something that already fits me but the way i see it..why should i not have a shirt i really like just because its too big and they dont have a smaller size..i get it taken in and it fits me perfectly....does anyone else do that or does the cheese stand alone in this one?

No, I think what you're doing is a great idea! My mom's only about 5'1" and even the "petite" size pants never fit her, length-wise. She ends up having to get everything tailored, even her jeans! I am a little taller, at 5'4", but I have to get things shortened every now and then.

As for buying things in a bigger size and getting them altered, if you have a good, inexpensive tailor, you're probably able to actually save money that way, because every woman knows that when a store has a major sale, the items that end up on the clearance rack are either way small or really large. You can find an abundance of size 00 and size 24 on the 80% off rack, but good luck finding the sizes for the average women out there (size 6-12 predominantly). If you get a super-huge blouse or skirt for maybe $5, and then you take it to your tailor to get it taken in and fitted, you've probably just spent only $30 total on a garment that might have been about $40 originally before going on sale. Besides, every fashion designer will tell you that the fit of a garment is more important than anything else, including style and color. A $500 pair of Armani pants will look like trash on a woman if they're too long or baggy, but a Wal-Mart pair of slacks for $16 will look like a milllion bucks if the fit is properly hugging the woman's body in all the right places. Just continue doing what you do, and don't listen to your friends.

It's far from crazy, it is a perfect way to get a wardrobe fitted exclusively to yourself. Who wouldn't want clothes that fit them perfectly? Most personal stylist do this with their clients. I frequently have my pants and dress shirts tailored to me. It makes a clean, professional appearence. It will pay in the long run. Where as you will have a whole wardrobe of tailored pieces when you enter the professional work field, your pals will make a sloppy impression in their one size fits most clothing. The cheese most definitely doesn't stand alone on this one!

Nope, you are not crazy. You understand that you are not a store size and refuse to compromise in regards to fit. And why should you compromise? And I'm quite sure you have more important things to do than to go to every store everywhere to find that one perfect item with the perfect fit, and you need not compromise and buy something that you don't like just because it fits. What will your friend do if she loves something that doesn't fit? A good tailor is the well dressed person's best friend. Continue to do what you do, there's nothing wrong!

I think your friends are crazy. I'm 24 and 5'3" and I do the exact same thing. Why not? You always want your clothes to fit perfectly on you. You don't want to look like a mess and it's hard for short people to find things that fit exactly. And buying things too big and getting them tailored to fit you......genius. Again, why not? Yeah it might cost a little more....but looking good is worth it!

I don't think that's crazy. I know how hard it is to find pants when you aren't very tall. It would take forever to find them - and you would have to pay a lot extra to get pants made just for you. It's the same thing with shirts. If you love the top then go ahead and get it. I don't see anything wrong with doing this. Good luck!

No it's not cheesey I think it's a good idea. BTW most stylist will tell you to do that anyway. Have your friends watch a marathon of "WHAT NOT TO WEAR" and they both tell you to have your clothes tailored because it's customizing to your body. Good for you girl don't listen to what everybody is telling you.

What a good idea! I wish I'd thought of that myself... Except I'd get my mum to do it or try myself (Being a student, I don't know if I can afford tailoring... although I know of a fashion student who's advertised her services).

Also, I don't know what style of trouser leg can be taken up without the trousers losing shape.

the factor of runway exhibits is to make a fact. the clothing are actually not made to be "waiting to positioned on". the belief of runway exhibits is marvel value. yet then the designers take the seems from the runway and tone them way down and then sell them to the familiar public.
