Patriotism is something that needs not be demonstrated, but lived.
People who wear a flag pin but support the desecration of our constitution are not patriotic, no matter how they "display" it.
A true American believes in our freedoms, yet understands that we must afford those same freedoms to others in order to remain free.
There is only one way to have peace in the world... and that's by practicing justice. It's really pretty simple: justice=peace.
And that's not just being patriotic, that's also being a good citizen, not just to our own country, but to our world.
I show my patriotism by caring enough about my country to question my public servants when they're not serving the public, but themselves. That's my right as an American and I will never be bullied into silence. That's what I consider patriotism.
" When the government fears the people, you have liberty. When the people fear the government, you have tyranny."
--Thomas Jefferson.

Why is it neccesary for one to SHOW patriotism. If one is patriotic in their heart and soul they souldn't care whether others know it or not. As a veteran I would like to be able to get the day off but we don't do that in most companies. I will fly the flag if I remember, and I usually do, but if I don't it doesn't mean I am less patriotic.
The mentality of some seems like a gang mentality. One has to wear a red bandana or a blue cap or something to show loyalty to the gang. I don't belong to a gang. I am an American veteran and proud of my service. I don't choose to brag about it or flaunt it. I did my duty to my country. I am proud of my country and when the opportunity is there I proudly sing the national anthem or recite the pledge. If I fly the flag on holidays that is good too but beyond that nothing more is necessary.

I don't do anything specific on Veteran's Day other than take the time to think about my family members and friends who have served and are serving. I also don't necessarily think it's important to "show" my patriotism outwardly. I think it's more important to contribute to the direction in which we are heading as a country. That's why I will always be underpaid.

Veterans are the old gems of the country because of whom we, the people of this nation are here! In this situation, to present the patriotism in such an environment on a great day like the veterans, we do not need to indulge in the pomp and show. We can simply visit the veterans, spend a day with them, have a good conversation and make them feel proud of their contribution. It is just the appreciation and respect that is required by any soldier. Remember, even if you do not do so, their worth stays same, it is just that your efforts will make our real life heroes smile and cherish forever.

I agree that you don't have to show with a flag t-shirt or anything. I do think it's nice to show your patriotism by letting it be known that you support the troops and are proud of your country.
I show my patriotism by donating items to the disabled veterans. My husband, dad, and grandfather are all military vets. I thank them for what they did. Also, I send items over seas to the troops.
Apart from the military, I show my patriotism by voting and trying to be a good citizen who is respectful of other Americans. I do my part by working and raising respectful children to try and keep our country grand! =)
