That is such a lovely thing to do. Could you get some letters from yours and his close friends, his parents, your parents? Other than that, you could write him a lovely letter telling him how much he means and what he has brought to your life. Give him some extra inspiration and let him know you are behind him 100%. try making a cd for him of all of your songs for him so he can play it on his laptop if he has one when he is over seas or make a scrapbook with music on it
