The party used to tell me Reagan was smart and government was bad. Now, they support spying on U.S. citizens who haven't even been accused in a court of law. They support massive non-military spending growth in socialist programs like Medicare, and they're using the unconstitutional Dept. of Education to push a national agenda to influence the youngest among us.
Now we're supposed to choose between gun-grabbing Giuliani, Universal Medical Corporate Welfare by Romney, Lobbying Fred, or Health Nazi Huckabee?
...What Happened?

Jacob W: The government got caught spying on a retired military officer and U.S. citizen with no criminal history. The judge found the FBI's usage of the Patriot Act unconstitutional, but Bush's administration wants to challenge it in the Supreme Court. Full text of a U.S. citizen being bugged and followed around town and having his home searched multiple times by federal agents with no warrant:

This is exactly why I'm so angry with the Republican party right now. They used to be for small government, but now they're all about regulating morality and controlling people. What happened? I have no idea; I wish I knew. And yeah, all the Republican candidates pretty much suck.

You have to look at what the republicans consider valid government functions to understand why they're suddenly spending like sailors on shore leave. The republicans are the law and order party. Literally. They think the government should protect us and "traditional" family values. When 911 happened it gave a green light to every government program that promised to "protect" us. And there are a ton of 'em, including quite a few that trample the Constitution. But as so many are fond of saying, "The Constitution isn't a suicide pact." This gives them the moral rationilization to defile it with warrantless wiretaps, domestic spying programs, The Department of Homeland Security, and that cesspit at Guantanamo. So long as they're keeping us safe then it's right and good, and they define what safe is. When it comes to social programs like health care I think they're just scared to come right out and say that universal health care is an expensive, inefficient boondoggle. The democrats are promising "free" health care, and the republicans don't think they can win votes using a moral argument. People vote with their pocketbooks, and pointing out that taxes will rise and quality of care will decline just doesn't work when you barely pay taxes to begin with. They're scared of saying that, but they need to make SOME moral argument to maintain their image as the family values party. So we get crap like amendments banning gay marriage. And of course homosexuality is a learned behavior (snicker), so where are they learning it? Oh yeah, must be in the schools. You see where I'm headed.
Physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight. We're not the boy scouts, we're your republican federal government.

perplexed? We purely ought to comprehend the GOP/conservative attitude. operating example, if we take heed to hurry Limbaugh, and we are dittoheads, all of us understand that someone stuck with an unlawful substance should be imprisoned, ideally for existence, or, once you're in Texas, purely finished away with. notwithstanding, when you're actual Rush Limbaugh, and it develops that you're a drug-addled painkiller addict who's unlawfully acquiring the form of enormous quantity of prescriptions that you've actual - and it truly is actual - lengthy gone quickly deaf at one factor - then the previous rules do not observe. Then we ought to ask, "What could Jesus do?" nicely, the perfect Christian reaction is to comprehend that all of us have weaknesses, and we should be empathetic, and pray for the undesirable, slobbering fool. (in my opinion, I accept as true with this section, yet i imagine it truly is going to be utilized gently, all round). And at the same time as Rush is back from rehab, we will cheer him back if he signifies that a black guy could get 40 - to - existence for the possession of a roach clip. I, in my opinion, am looking it extremely relaxing that the hot "relatives values" Republicans are professional-teenage being pregnant. i will wager they had to swallow actual confusing to positioned a recreation face on that one.

America is not spying on its citizens.
Rudy is not a conservative but has some important conservative positions.
Mitt has a good plan that provides universal coverage but at the state level not the Federal level. I have no problem with that.
Huckabee is a good conservative.
Thompson is a pretty good conservative. Lobbying is not a crime and both parties participate. To me, it is a non issue. The Constitution specifically allows for petitioning the government and the right to assemble for that purpose.

What happened is there is an election coming. They are very aware of how dissatisfied the general public is with their party and are trying to gain votes. Plain and simple. If there wasn't an election next year, none of these issues would even be talked about.

How in the world are they "using the unconsitution dept of education to push a national agenda?." Teachers have always been the most liberal people I've ever met.

Hoi polloi conservatives perhaps are finally waking up to their own interests rather than the interests of Wall Street!
I'll reserve my sigh of relief until after 2008.

The Republicans don't exactly have the best candidates this year.
None of them are exciting, and they have no new ideas.
Rudy is the only one of them that makes sense, and if he ran, I'd condsider crossing party lines to vote for him.

Good question. There are no good social conservatives running this time. But, the worst Republican is much better than the best Democrat.
