The host of the show was Andy Devine, they had a little cat that would dance, and an evil little frog "Froggie".

They had a theme song for the kids in audience "I've got a gang, you've got a gang, everybodies gotta have a gang! But their's only one really gang for me......good ole Andy's gang."

Was this show exclusively in the New York City area? I have friends from other areas that never heard of it!

I am of the vintage that should remember this show but for some reason it rings no bells. I remember the Buster Brown show and the famous "PLUNK YOUR MAGIC TWANGER, FROGGY". That was always a cause for childhood excitement as we sat with our faces about 3 feet away from that little black and white screen.

Here is a neat short link that tells about the two shows. Seems there is a little overlap so maybe one was more dominant in one area than another. I lived in New Hampshire when I grew up. We might have been to innocent and conservative for the NYC version....lol

Andy Devine was a real fav or mine - he played sidekick to Roy Rogers and to Wild Bill Hicock...but I have never heard of Andy's Gang - :-(

I'm flabbergasted that this question came up. I hadn't thought of Andy's Gang for about 30 years, and yesterday in the shower it just popped into my head for no reason at all, and today I see your question. SPOOKY ! I was thinking that I remembered Froggie, but for the life of me I couldn't think of Andy Divine's name. Thanks for jogging my memory.

I do...though I was VERY small. They have an Andy Devine Boulevard in Kingman, AZ...in honor of Andy Devine.

I remember Andy Devine with Gene Autry but not this particular show . He always seemed like one of the kids in a big body. I always loved his laugh. Thanks for reminding me.
My mistake , I realize now it was Wild Bill Hickock and he was Jingles and when he walked ,his spurs always jingled.

Not sure if its' the same show --was it "midnight" the cat and
"Froggie d'gremlin" ? Froggie would say "hi ya kids, hiya hiya hiya " and then let loose with a raspberry ?

I remember it very well! Midnight was the cat's name. And the catch phrase; "Plunk your magic twanger, Froggy!" still cracks me up each time I remember it.
