Like in "Band of Brothers". Men who fight side by side.
It was said by a reporter in the Pacific that the Marines did not fight for Corps or Country or their loved ones back home. They fought for the Marine next to them. Many become closer than brothers. They eat, sleep, train, fight and die together. Hope this helps.

It means fellow soldiers. When men are in combat together, they often become as close as brothers. Now that women serve too, the phrase doesn't work as well as it once did, but it's still used to mean a close friendship between soldiers.

It means the men in your unit in the military. The idea behind it being that you form such a close bond with them, because of your shared experiences, that you have a relationship like brothers.
