It's quite a shocking book, that's why it is sealed in the shops... but what is your opinion of it? Does it work?

The movie was very soft. The book was way more graphic and disturbing. And in the book the murders were real.
However. it is completely open to interpretaiton. The writer of book has said that the murders weren't real, but the director of movie said that they were. The director's vision hinted through her commentary on 80's materialism, for example the attitude of the woman who was selling the apartment. She seemed like she knew what was happening, but prefered to cover the whole thing up instead of getting the apartment involved in dirty murder business.

good luck

I have. I think he (BEE) wanted to be very postmodern and cynical but I prefer stories which are more suspenseful, not just disgusting.
