Chicken or the egg?

Eggs came along a long time before there were chickens. Lizards were laying them for millions of years before there were ever any birds. Slowly these lizards evolved feathers. Like it or not the fossil record does exist for this idea. Identical skeletons have been found, some with feathers, some without.

At some point an egg hatched and what came out looked sufficiently different from what had been coming out before that someone named it chicken.

So this answer is not as difficult to understand as philosophers have lead us to believe.

Chicken if you refuse to take the belief of evolution.

But personally I would say egg.

If we use the theory of evolution we must consider the chicken would originate from an animal similar to that of a chicken. It is found that the Red Jungle fowl is the direct anscester of the chicken. And it is a known fact a Red Junglefowl lay eggs. So after years of domestication and genetic changes the creation of the first chicken egg was laid which in turn would hatch to become a chicken. Although the exact point of the laying of the first "chicken egg" cant be easily determined due to specific requirements for classification or what not. But that doesn't really matter in answering the question. :)

Oh and just to prevent people from actually spreading Green Giants argument I'm going to refute his reasonings. Cuz we don't need more dumb people...

1. You can't use the bible as "fact" there is no proof only belief.

2. The first "chicken egg" would have parents thus could be incubated. The parents would not be classified as pure chicken due to the genetic mutation that would have to take place to finally create that "chicken egg." Genetic Mutations can only occur during development of the chicken.

3. This reason really has no point... even if the chick had parents an animal such as a lion could easily eat the parents and the chick. Its a predator prey relationship and every animal is part of this...Just because an animal has a predator doesnt mean it is going to become extinct.

4. OK I read this reason like a hundred times and I still cant make sense of it... But chickens dont have like a one week time limit to reproduce. I don't get the whole "week" thing.

many people argued with this question and said to themselves there is no win in this question. id like to convinced you
that there is a winner in this question. i hope you will be convinced .

first let take a look at the question above . which comes first + egg or chicken

i say it would be better if the question is - which comes first - 2 eggs female and male or a rooster and a hen ?

1st. reason that its the chicken that comes first .

ok back to the original question. but first take a look at this - take from here genesis in the beginning http://www.wsu.edu/~dee/HEBREWS/GENCREAT.HTM

And God said, "Let the waters teem with the breath of living creatures, and let birds fly above the land across the face of the expanse of heaven." And so it was.
And God made the wild animals according the their proper kinds, and the cattle according to its proper kind, and every creature that crawls on the ground according to their proper kind. And God saw that it was good.
26 Then God said, "Let us make man in our own image, in our likeness, and let them reign over the fish of the sea, and the birds of air, and the cattle, and all the land, 2 and all the creatures that crawl upon the earth."

the bible says - birds fly , wild animals , cattle and man - it didnt say bird's egg , hungry kittens , weak or crying babies. there was no egg that mentioned here .

2nd. reason that its the chicken that comes first

if the eggs comes first - then there is no hen to incubate it properyly , then it wont hatch or even developed into a chick.

3rd. reason that its the chicken that comes first

if its was the egg that comes first and it was able to incubate itself ( which wont happen ) and turn into a chicks , then there is a less chance of survival since the kitten or small lions or tigers are also hungry and looking for food , they could it the chick , so there will be no chance of having a chicken . less chance of survival .

4th reason that its the chicken that comes first

on the first day the egg(s) comes out - female and male - there is no chance that the two eggs will be able to produce 1 egg , or another chicken right away or in a week - cause they reproductive organs are not developed yet and the eggshells covers them.

on the first day the hen and the rooster comes out first - there is a chance that the two chickens will be able to producr 1 egg or another chick in a week or month . and the chickens has more chances of survival than the eggs .

----- i hope you are now convinced and spread the reasons why the chickens comes first . 4 reasons is enough . ----

This is not a question. It's just a stupîd question.
Somewhere, in the evolution, fishes evolved to more earthly beings, such as amphibians, who developed some kind of lungs. Be aware: they were no lungs just at the beginning! They were 10 percent of lungs, even less but even 1 percent of lungs is better than no lungs at all. So evolved vision, etc.
But for sure, the first living things were hermaphrodites, because how would they reproduce themselves it they were not ? Sexual differentiation came eons later.
So were eggs. They are the result of so many mutations (i.e. breaks in the reproduction process ruled by genes and genomes) that some day, somewhere, it was an advantage (regarding the rule of "survival of the fittest") to have an independent device for reproduction. Full stop.

The first chicken had to come out of an egg.

Something evolved into a chicken and out came the egg.

I think the chicken came first because God created it and then it laid the first egg. If you are more a fan of the evolution theory, then it was the egg first because the creature that evolved into the chicken laid the first egg with a chicken inside.

The egg was first. It was served for breakfast. Chicken wasn't served until lunch.

To me, this is my answer (i'm not trying to be funny, but this is what i always thought):

I believe that in the beginning, there was a certain bacteria which reproduced asexually, and after millions of years, it began to evolve into a chicken, which would now have the ability to reproduce by eggs. so yeah, to me neither

i think the chicken was first, i think it was a new animal bred funnily by another, a rare object of rejects then man called it chicken that laid an egg after.
