I have a ford Mondeo that has snow tyres on steel rims 6J x 15 x 49.5 and summer tyres on Alu rims 5J x 15 x 45

Yes I know J6 is the width but how much, oh and 15" normal for a Ford Mondeo

6j is the wheel width, in inches
15 is the wheel diameter, in inches
and 45 is the offset (sometimes called ET) in millimetres. It's the measurement from the back of the wheel rim to the back face of the centre of the wheel where the bolts go.

Lower offsets will make the wheel stick out farther and may cause the tyre to fowl the bodywork.

6J is the width of the wheel.
15 the diameter
45 is the aspect ratio
Never heard of 49.5
