Im 37weeks pregnant and have eaten alot of fruit, veg and the occasional dose of junk food throughout my pregnancy. What disturbs me was reading today about women with eating disorders who carry this habit on through pregnancy... Making theselves throw up and not eating a healthy diet. One girl was 6months pregnant and surviving on Jaffa Cakes and Lemonade. I cant say alot because iv never had an eating disorder, i felt one of the joys of being pregnant was being able to eat alot...These women are putting their unborn babies at very high risks...The article said that eating disorders whilst pregnant is a growing 'trend'.
I half blame these celebrities who leave hospital in there Skinny Jeans after giving birth, alot of young women feel that this is the way when truely u gain the weight you are supposed to then excersice and work it off after...Breast feeding i heard also helps to loose the weight.
Just wanted other peoples opinion on this topic.

I bought a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables when I was pregnant because I would eat whatever was in sight, so I figured if I surrounded myself with good stuff, it would make a healthier baby.

I had a friend-of-a-friend who was in frantic paranoia about gaining weight while pregnant. She delivered at the same time I did. Her baby was retarded and premature, due to lack of nutrition. My daughter graduated Ivy League and is now in med school.

Eating disorders are very debilitating, and depending on how long one has had it, pregnancy or no pregnancy they are harder to quit doing then for some people to quit smoking. I'm not justifying they are right, because in fact they put themselves and their child at a very high risk. People who throw up, or that are bulimic, often can't stop throwing up without doctor intervention. They have trained their bodies to do so, and even pregnant they continue to do it, afraid that if they tell their doctor someone will think badly of them. They already have very low-self esteems.

My first 2 pregnancies, I was sick the entire 10 months, and mine was never in the morning, only ever in the evening. I was hospitalized several times due to dehydration. This pregnancy I was only sick in the beginning, I've rather enjoyed this one for the most part.

Anyways, congrats on your little one!

I hear you. I also think that's totally irresponsible when women won't change their bad habits (under or over eating, drinking, smoking) when they become pregnant. I didn't like to eat a lot before I became pregnant, but I made a conscience decision to eat a little bit more because it was better for myself and the baby. And sometimes baby didn't give me a choice. :P
I still think the key though is to make sure that you eat more of the "right foods" whilst pregnant. For example, ice cream can be a healthy (calcium rich) snack during pregnancy, but you shouldn't use your condition as an excuse to eat a whole tub in one sitting.
