Home Premium is crippled so as to force some people to pay extra for what should come at the price of Home Basic.

Ultimate has every feature of Vista while Home Premium has the more business oriented features stripped out (it also doesn't support multiple processors so if you have a multi-CPU machine you need Ultimate though no laptops I know of how two processors (Microsoft consider a multi-core processor to be just one processor so you can use both cores of a dual core chip on any Vista version)).

Premium is designed for home desktops and laptops. Ultimate has a larger security that is mainly designed for computers on networks, such as at school or at work.

I have Home Premium which is fine. Ultimate is far more office based and you really wont need the add ons unless you are a businessman. Ultimate is also twice the price.
