Same coin, different sides. The coin is "mysticism." A jinx is like bad karma tapping you on the shoulder. A hex is like bad karma told to tap you on the shoulder, by a witch or other mystical being.

Jinx- is a person or thing that is believed to bring bad luck
It is implied that having this "jinx" or possessing this "jinxed object" will result in automatic failure of a party, gathering , business event, or anything to be blamed for.
It is cruel and unkind since there is no real scientific proof or even some karmic connection.
It is merely deflecting blame from poor planning or lousy preparation to an innocent person, pet or ornament. It saves face for the others and preserves their high stature.
People who practice this are usually parochial, not very educated and may be in a low income bracket.
A hex is the synonym for a curse. It is punishment doled out as a retribution for a wrong, a sin of great magnitude. This "curse" may beassociated with previous generations, and has the overtones of karmic debt.

A jinx can be self imposed or natural occurring. A hex is placed on you by another but only if you believe in it.

There is a reason for our vocabulary being so diverse. The truth is many of the variations are not well known between word meanings. The subtleties of social pressures can well be different in the two types of pressures that you have here. I am sure there are more words like these. I know that there is much to do when dealing with the mind. Sorry I can not explain what the differences are. I do know if you hold something belonging to another person there is an ethereal connection. These connections exist between people who are very closely associated with each other only. That's my story and I am sticking to it.

Jinx is self-imposed and a hex is thrown by someone else. That's my guess.
