Sometimes we just feel hungry out of habit, or we see an ad on TV for a food that looks good, or we smell something good. (popcorn does that for me) Physically, we get hungry when our stomachs empty. Our digestive system is always working, spilling juices into the stomach to digest the food. When the stomach is empty, those juices cry for more.

Our stomachs have organs that produce juices which act on the food that we eat and help in digestion. These juices are normally acidic. If there is no food for these juices to act upon, they affect the lining of the stomach, and by their acidic nature, produce a sense of irritation which is what we feel in the form of hunger.

If it is true hunger, it is your body's way of telling you it needs to be nourished.
