does your desktop computer even have a rechargeable battery? the only battery in your computer is the motherboard's battery but that usually doesn't say that the battery is low. your ups, if you have one, charges as long as there is electricity and you don't use it to power up your system if you are not experiencing blackouts.

try running security softwares like anti-spywares and anti-virus softwares. it may be a malicious file messing with you.

I doubt it could actually be saying battery low on a desktop. It just doesn't make any sense (if the battery were running low you'd first notice the computer losing all ability to keep time).

The CMOS batteries in desktop computers can last decades, I'd be very surprised if something that can run Vista has a flat battery.

Unless it refers to a UPS although if you had a UPS I'd expect you to know about it (and the UPS will charge when connected to the wall and the power isn't out, it would also be beeping at you when it is running on battery).

Or maybe you've actually got a laptop.

You can not charge the battery. You have to replace it. Normally it is a "watch" battery that you can get for about $5 almost anywhere. (All the battery does is hold the time and date when the computer is turned off. It will actually run just fine without the battery working.)

Go the HP web site and under their Support section do a search for your make and model. Thye should have instructions for replacing the battery. Normally you open the case, locate the battery on the system board, and then you can use a finger or small screwdriver to pop it out. Push in the new one and you are done. Very simple.

shut the cpu off
remove the power cable from the power supply
remove the cover from the cpu
locate the battery & remove it. I use a wooden ice cream stick to pop it out ( remember which side is + & which side is - when putting a new 1 in.)
on some cpu's it has wires with a black connector that jacks on to the mother board & the battery is held in place with velcro.
on older cpu's it is solder on.
on others it a chip.
